  1. I'm considering working in a jail or prison. I've heard of a few horror stories from fellow collegues which is holding me back from making a decision. Obviously there are risks in any nursing job, but is it really as dangerous as some say it is (being that it's a jail and all).
  2. i've had friends that have waited 1 1/2 years to waiting 5 years. some schools are lottery, some are first come first serve. you should talk to a school nursing rep.
  3. For LVN to ADN students, do you feel prepared for the NCLEX? I'm worried about spending alot on tuition and not being prepared for the NCLEX or as a nurse.
  4. I am also planning on attending WCU next year. Has anyone had any trouble transferring over their pre-reqs from JCs? Can any of you tell me which classes you took and where as far as pre-reqs. :]
  5. actually i live in downey, 562 area. i now am enrolled at downey adult school. the program is only $5000 and has a 96% nclex pass rate. the only down side is you have to compete to get in. hope this helps! :]
  6. i inquired last year and it was about 30k
  7. In southern California private LVN schools are over 30,000! I was fortunate enough to get into Downey Adult School for only 5,000.
  8. Because of the outrageous waiting list for RN school, I'm pursuing the LVN license because I can take the bridge to RN route and probably not wait as long or at least have something to show for a year of school. :]
  9. I attend Downey's vn program, and although it is not a requiement to have a healthcare background, I would highly suggest to take a CNA course or have some sort of college background. All of the students have some sort of college or healthcare background. Also, brush up on basic math and english skills. The entrance test is composed of percent, ratio, decimals, word problems, etc.
  10. trasee... there is no need to worry about the job market for LVNs. LVNs find plenty of work in the long term care setting, rather than acute care facilities. instead of listeing to what other people have to say regarding the job market, you should look and see for yourself.
  11. what are the pre-req's for county?
  12. What is the average that everyone has been waiting as a LVN waiting on the bridge program at these local cc's?
  13. Is anyone a LVN-RN bridge student at Cerritos, Cypress, LBCC, or Rio Hondo? If so, do you feel as prepared as students who are not LVNs? Are LVNs immidiately placed in the program if they have fulfilled all necessary pre-requisites, or is there still a waiting list? Hoping to find some answes to my questions, I can't find them anywhere else.
  14. What I've found to be helpful is to outline the chapter I'm reading. For every subsection in the chapter I summarize it in two sentences, and create my own "study guide" by creating my own questions out of the reading. Hope this helps!
