County Jail VS Prison
I'm considering working in a jail or prison. I've heard of a few horror stories from fellow collegues which is holding me back from making a decision. Obviously there are risks in any nursing job, but is it really as dangerous as some say it is (being that it's a jail and all).

Anyone recommend Lvn-Adn program at Westcoast University?
For LVN to ADN students, do you feel prepared for the NCLEX? I'm worried about spending alot on tuition and not being prepared for the NCLEX or as a nurse.

LPN Tuition-how much did you pay?
In southern California private LVN schools are over 30,000! I was fortunate enough to get into Downey Adult School for only 5,000.
-
Is the salary of an LPN even Worth the trouble of going to school??
Because of the outrageous waiting list for RN school, I'm pursuing the LVN license because I can take the bridge to RN route and probably not wait as long or at least have something to show for a year of school. :]

Anyone have any experiences with Downey Adult School in OC ?
I attend Downey's vn program, and although it is not a requiement to have a healthcare background, I would highly suggest to take a CNA course or have some sort of college background. All of the students have some sort of college or healthcare background. Also, brush up on basic math and english skills. The entrance test is composed of percent, ratio, decimals, word problems, etc.

Help!!! With a school decision!!! =/
trasee... there is no need to worry about the job market for LVNs. LVNs find plenty of work in the long term care setting, rather than acute care facilities. instead of listeing to what other people have to say regarding the job market, you should look and see for yourself.

Frustrations on Lvn to Rn bridge programs in Southern CA community colleges
What is the average that everyone has been waiting as a LVN waiting on the bridge program at these local cc's?

ANATOMY 1 class is ALWAYS FULL! X(
Is anyone a LVN-RN bridge student at Cerritos, Cypress, LBCC, or Rio Hondo? If so, do you feel as prepared as students who are not LVNs? Are LVNs immidiately placed in the program if they have fulfilled all necessary pre-requisites, or is there still a waiting list? Hoping to find some answes to my questions, I can't find them anywhere else.

Teach me how to STUDY!
What I've found to be helpful is to outline the chapter I'm reading. For every subsection in the chapter I summarize it in two sentences, and create my own "study guide" by creating my own questions out of the reading. Hope this helps!

Anyone have any experiences with Downey Adult School in OC ?
I am a pending student at Downey Adult School which is actually in Los Angeles county- not Orange county. It's located on Imperial Hwy. and Woodruff Ave. It's an excellent school that is accredited by the Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians. The passing rate for the NCLEX-PN is exceptional, at this moment it stands at 96%! The process of being accepted into their VN program requires an assesment of 10th grade level English and Math. The second step is being accepted into their Pre-VN course. Out of the X number of applicants, only 60 will be accepted into the class. As of right now the Pre-VN course is Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:30 am to 11:30 a.m. that lasts about 6 weeks. Once entered in the fundamentals course you will learn medical terminology, basic medication administration, math for pharmacology, and basic A&P. During this time an interview with the DON will take place in which they ask you questions to get to know you, and to make sure this is the right career path for you. Lastly, out of the Pre-VN course only 30 will be selected to be entered into the 12 month LVN program. The hours for the program are Monday through Thursday 6:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on clinical days, and 8:30 to 2:30 on theory days. If you have any more questions, you can message me on this forum. Good luck to everyone applying!

I was denied a maternity leave.
I appreciate everyone's response. The problem that I'm having is because the school HAS a leave of absence policy for pregnancy, military, or bereavement. It is stated the the school catalog and was explained to us during orientation. Being that it wasn't available at the school, I would have not applied there. I understand the space availability issue; however, I don't understand how a failed student would be able to take the seat in a class before me because I left in good standing- with all of my financial obligations paid and an 88% in the class.

I was denied a maternity leave.
I'm a vocational nursing student at a trade school and was denied a leave of absence due to pregnancy. I won't even be put on a waiting list! Failed students have priority over me to re-enter the program! I ended the term with an 88%, my financial obligations are taken care of, and my obgyn even had written a letter to the school requesting I be able to take off the next term. The school said that I would be terminated! Does anyone have an experience similar to this, or possibly information that would help me appeal the school's decision to terminate me because of pregnancy? Also, does anyone in their opinion believe this is considered an act of discrimination? PLEASE reply. I really don't want to have to start all over again in another program.
