Any one here graduates of the program? Or are in the program?

Mellissabelle: Do you have any advice on taking the Reading Vocabulary section?

Thank you.

i just got home from mexico and i got the mail Im in!!!! County here I come!!!

Congrats!! I would look over a High School exit exam book for both the reading/vocab/mathematics--at least, thats what some of my peers did. When do you take the exam? When do you start? Or did you last week?

practice reading quickly while also comprehending what you are reading.I believe that the reading is by far the most difficult sections of the exam. go out and buy a nursing school entrance exam study book. this really helps!!

Did anyone take this test on August 15th? They said test results would be mailed 4 weeks later... I'm going on 5 1/2 weeks and haven't received my results. If you tested that date - have you received results yet or are you also still waiting? Would love to know if anyone is as anxious as I am for these results.

Thanks!

~Blue

I took the test on August 15th and going crazy waiting for the results . . . I called LA county and she said it'll take at least another week!

Aahh!!!! Lolollys, Thanks for the update. This is driving me a bit nuts too! Is my memory failing or did they not say results would be mailed in 4 weeks? haha... Well... I guess now we know that the acceptance letters will probably be mailed later than Dec 1st. I've seen old posts where they mailed those at least 2 weeks late for some semesters.

Good luck on getting in. Hopefully we'll be classmates!

i took the test on the 15th as well, and i got my letter today!!!!!!!!! i scored 13.5+ on all tests.... by the time december 1st comes around, i won't have any nails... i'm so nervous!!!

Mugalex! Congrats!!! I saw your post and nearly ran the whole way to my mailbox. haha! Mine came today too!! I also scored 13.5+ on all test. Such a relief!!!! My nails will be fine in December, but I won't have any hair left! LOL Congrats again!! Hope to meet you & Lalollys on January 11th at orientation! :-)

HI EVERYONE! SOO im getting really nervous reading all these posts and i REALLY WISH I WOULD HAVE KNOWN ABOUT THIS BLOG MONTHS AGO!!! i need some help please!!!

im taking my LA County College Nursing Entrance exam on saturday for the Spring entry! And i know all of you guys have taken it and have passed with flying colors apparently! Congrats! BUT I WANT TO PASS IT TOO! the only part im worried about is the math section just because i havent taken a math course in years.. i've been catching up but not sure to what extent i should be prepared! CAN ANYONE HELP ME OUT WIHT SOME ADVICE ON THE MATH SECTION!?!?!? PLEEASE!! :) thanks -Ili

hi iliana! good luck with your exam. the math portion really had me scared too. you can find some study books at the book store, but i went onto the la county website and found some sample tests that were free:

http://dhr.lacounty.info/employment_test_preparation.asp

check them out. review how to do long division, basic algebra, percents, and decimals. also, go back and review fractions - how to find lowest common denominator, how to add them, subtract and how to divide them. of the 4 possible answers, 3 of them will be really close together and the 4th is "answer not here"... it's ok to guess if you're not sure - better to guess than to not answer. oh yeah, and don't forget to breathe!! no calculators, but they give you scratch paper. you'll be fine! i hadn't done this kind of math since 1998 and only reviewed the tests on county's website... and passed.

on the tests, you can look at the "clerical" tests to find where they give you step by step instructions on division... all of the sample tests give you the answers at the end, so look at how they calculate them.

good luck!!

OMG THANK YOU SOO MUCH BLU I REALLY APPRECIATE IT! THAT REALLY HELPS GIVE MY MIND A SENSE OF EASE!! HOPEFULLY I GET IN! IM SOO NERVOUS BUT EXCITED!! :) I ALSO HAVE ONE MORE QUESTION..I APPLIED AND SENT EVERYTHING IN AND STILL HAVENT RECIEVED ANYTHING IN THE MAIL.. I WAS READING OLDER POSTS AND IM NOT SURE IF IT WAS YOU OR SOMEONE ELSE BUT THEY SAID THEY RECIEVED A "PACKAGE " IN THE MAIL WITH SOME PAPERS?!??!? DOES THAT SOUND RIGHT.. I HAVENT RECIEVED ANYTHING.. THE ONLY WAY I KNEW MY TEST WAS THIS SATURDAY WAS BECAUSE I CALLED AND SPOKE TO them BUT LIKE I SAID I DIDNT KNOW I SHOULD HAVE RECIEVED ANYTHING... HHMM ILL PROBABLY JUST JUST CALL TOMORROW JUST TO MAKE SURE ANYWAYS.. WELL LIKE I SAID THANK YOU SOO MUCH FOR YOUR RESPONSE IT REALLY HELPED CALM MY NERVES NOW THAT I KNOW WHAT TO STUDY FOR! HOPEFULLY ILL SEE YOU IN JANUARY!! :wink2:

Very odd that you didn't get anything in the mail regarding your test date. Call again tomorrow and ask if she will fax it to you (I doubt that she can scan/email it - it's County after all). It included a questionairre and a form that you need to fill out and turn in. You can get one at the test, but it's easier if you have it done when you get there. Also, a map is in the packet of where to park. For the test, you'll park in the lot right at the school - I forget the street name. Make sure that they have your correct address while you're calling. You don't want them to mix it up. :-) Take $25 in cash or check with you and a couple of pencils with good erasers. Make sure you have your Drivers License too because they check your ID. Oh, and last time the AC was stuck on really cold - take a sweater just in case. hehe... Get there on time (7:30 I think) and expect to be there until 1pm. Eat something before you go and have a granola bar and a bottle of water in your purse for between exams. It will help you get through the day.

Good luck - You'll do great!!
