Yeah, so weird to receive a call instead of an email or letter from LAVC, but you're in! I will more than like be declining my seat at LAVC. I have already bought my books for GCC summer session...over $300!!! Ugh. Oh well, we knew this coming in, right? And, seeing how numbers go at Pierce, I bet they will be calling me soon, since I am only #19 on their wait list. I will decline there, if need be. I am super excited for GCC. The orientation seemed very personal, and our administration and office staff in nursing department have been very approachable. I have already started reading my massive Fundamentals in Nursing textbook. Back to reading now...Good luck, all!!!

0Jun 23, '12 by nurseoftheworldQuote from SoCalCrystalCrystal, I bought the bundle from the bookstore. Plus I got my Fundamentals book online for a couple bucks cheaper than the bookstore. I also just bought my shoes and white pants. Luckily, my mother in law gave me one of her stethoscopes! Lots of expenses....

0Jul 16, '12 by tdanQuote from McfritoI second that. Based on personal experience, I'd say all of that is 100% true... Sadly. I think there may have been even less than 15 nursing students at graduation but I may be wrong. (I graduated this year & am transferring to Mount St. Mary's BSN program.)
i was at the graduation which was like 2 maybe 3 weeks ago. not many were graduating. plus i heard from people who have attended there and also from a counselor there that the program isnt that great. (teachers arent very supportive, expect WAYYY to much from students. arent very flexible.) for example, ive been reading many great things about glendale. but pierce, not so many.
0Jul 16, '12 by tdanQuote from SoCalCrystalI've heard & experienced the same thing so I withdrew before the end of first semester. I have 3 guy friends with the same story - I wonder if we've spoken to the same person...
I know someone who just graduated from Pierce and firmly recommends staying away from their program. In talking about my experience at GCC he said it is like night and day compared to Pierce. Teachers are unsupportive (as someone already said), He actually failed a clinical rotation which IMO is pretty hard to do. Anyways he said the teacher had it out for him and a few others and he wasnt the only one who didnt pass that semester. He also said they didnt do much to prepare him for the NCLEX, which we already have NCLEX prep integrated into our program the first semester at GCC.
0Jul 22, '12 by McfritoQuote from tdanwhere did you end up finishing the program? it kinda sucks because pierce would be ideal since i live 5 mins away. but after hearing and reading so many bad things, i dont really care about having to travel somewhere far as long as the program is good.I've heard & experienced the same thing so I withdrew before the end of first semester. Luckily, I still had enough time to apply for fall 2012, so I applied to Mount St. Mary's BSN program and was accepted - we start in 3 weeks. I'm still amazed at how different it is... Supportive people, etc.
Honestly, it'll be worth the drive. I'd rather be in traffic driving to a school I love than be really close to a school where I'm completely unhappy. What other schools are you looking at?
