Anyone work there?

I've received a job offer that's of significantly higher salary than what I currently make enabling me to work part time at essentially full time wages.

I just wanted to see if anyone could give me a work perspective, especially if they have knowledge of the ER.

I like my job and most of my coworkers, but based on the salary increase alone, it'd be hard to turn down unless there were some major issues. I'm not getting the increased knowledge I want where I'm currently at, so that was my main incentive for applying to this job.

I appreciate anyone who has any insight.

Gonna bump as tons of school questions posted today.

I don't work there... but I did (somewhat recently) some clinical time at that hospital. It's difficult to keep the true culture under wraps from the students that are there for a semester... The facility does use a "Kaiserized" version of Epic, for lack of a better way to describe it.

My understanding is that they do 12's in the ICU and the ED. It's a Level 2 Trauma Center and you will get some sick patients. My experience is mostly as a patient or the parent of a patient as far as the ED is concerned. My sense is that the staff is pretty well gelled together and they do seem to be pretty well team oriented. I know the floors are pretty well set on their schedule, they take breaks and lunches pretty much on time. I'm not as sure about the ED though, but they can get pretty busy, as can any ED so you're probably used to that.

I know the facility has been around quite a long time and the ED has expanded quite a bit in the last 15 years... mostly due to them being designated the Level 2 Trauma center for the southern part of the County.

I don't know if this helps you any, but hopefully someone will respond to you either here or via PM so that you can get a better idea what working in the ED is like and if you and the ED would mesh well together.

I interviewed there, but got bumped for a last minute internal candidate. Might be there with the next cycle of new grads! The manager and I are in touch. Seems like a good environment, from my short impression there. My brother and his wife had their baby there in July, and the nurses in general seemed happy. I've heard nothing but good things about working for Kaiser, and of course, you can't beat their pay scale. Being a level II trauma center, STEMI-receiving and stroke-certified, you'd probably gain the growth you seek. Good luck! Might be seeing you in the coming months...

Thanks guys. I work in another ED in the area right now that's a level 1 which can be crazy at times and sometimes really lacks teamwork as well as just stagnant regarding training. Kaiser hired me for 8 hour shifts. Just waiting for the background check to finish. What I really was hoping to hear was that there's good teamwork. You are definitely right regarding their pay scale, huge bump for me.

Runbaby, hopefully I will see you soon as well.

Thanksgiving the info you two!!

Specializes in ED.

NikiLaughs, Trying to contact you but the "rules" around here are a little....restrictive....on pm'ing. I want to get with you about working at UCD and Kaiser---as I am planning a move w/in six months to Cali and don't want to make serious mistakes that I can't undo. Could you email me on my private email away from this....um.....place..... [email protected] TIA
