Has anyone experienced the five minute interview with Sutter Delta's RN Internship?

U.S.A. California

Published

Hello everyone, this is my first post to allnurses.com. I just recently graduated with my bachelor's degree in registered nursing in March 2013 and got my license in June and have been applying to every job available under the sun for the past month and a half with nothing but rejection after rejection. Despite that I just got a phone call from Sutter Delta's RN Internship Program and my interview is scheduled for August 14th, 2013. They told me that the first interview is five minutes and within that five minutes I need to be able to wow the panel. What I want to know is if anyone has experienced that interview. Is the interview focused on more personality driven questions and what you would do if you had a conflict with co-workers, managers, and the sort or is it mainly technical questions? For example, If a patient is suffering from a narcotics overdose what would you give to treat them? I just want to know about the first interview, the five minutes, because I am sure after the first interview the second interview will most likely consist of technical questions. Please, those that have experienced this interview please reply. Even if you know someone who went through it and you know their experience, please reply to this topic.

Welcome to Allnurses.com!

I assume Sutter Delta is in California? Your post has been moved to the California Nursing forum with the hope of generating local replies. Good luck to you!

I also have the interview on Aug. 14. Which department did you apply for and what time did they give you your interview for? I was shocked when she told me it was gonna be a 5 minute interview. It will definitely be interesting. I have asked around a ton of people and not a lot of people know about their program or what the 5 minute interview is focused on. Best of luck to you.

Hello Frank609, I have my appointment time at 1:40 pm, what time is yours. I would rather not say the department, do you live near that hospital? I have been doing various research online and I have come to the conclusion that it most likely will not be technical based. I read somewhere that they generally get 60-70 applications per department and in the end they only select 3 interns per department, so that means the competition is steep. I am curious though out of the 60-70 applicants how many make it to the 5 minute interview and then through the second interview.

Hi there! Congrats on your interviews! I was just curious, I know you don't want to state your department, but can you at least let me know if it was in Med/Surg? That's the one I applied for and I haven't heard anything. Just curious to know if I should even be expecting a call, or if they've already interviewed candidates for that. Thanks a bunch and good luck to you both!

I think all the interviews were today, if you didn't get a call your probably not going to get one. I don't want to go into details but it was the most difficult interview I had to do. Lets just say I wasn't prepared for what they had me do. I don't think they are going to select me.

I agree nothing could have prepared for interview... I went brain dead. I doubt I'll get chosen.

i had an interview yesterday too, I feel the same way! Totally caught me off guard. Keep your heads up and stay positive, you never know!!

Indeed. It was a really unexpected experience, but good nonetheless. When are we supposed to hear from them? Is it tomorrow, Fri 8/16?

You have to realize that they only accept 3 interns per department. So most likely they will probably interview only about 10 per department for second interview. Unless you think you were in the top 10% of all that were interviewed you probably will not get a call back. I know it would be nice to get a call but I am not expecting one.

Just curious where you came up with that number? The last internship had 5 in ED, 3 in med-surg, 2 in surgery, 2 in telemetry, and 1 in OB/peds. Good luck!

Has anyone received a call for second interview?!
