Does a 1 year ADN program in California exist?

U.S.A. California

Hi All,

Does anyone know of a community college in California that offers an accelerated 1 year Associate Degree in Nursing (full time - 3 semesters) program for those with a Bachelor's degree. I've been searching high and low and can't find one in California.

Thanks!

Specializes in Emergency, Trauma, Critical Care.

I've never heard of one, I"ve heard of accelerated second degree BSN's, but that's after you've completed your A & P and Micro. From what I've heard, they're very competitive.

Specializes in Emergency Department.

It depends upon your definition of "accelerated." Sacramento City College occasionally opens a program that runs four consecutive semesters, by that meaning: Fall, Spring, Summer, Fall. Their traditional program runs Fall and Spring Semesters only. If the program is running that year, its graduates will finish a semester before a traditional program graduate will. The two programs have identical entry requirements and will graduate with the same degree.

I have yet to hear of an accelerated ADN program that's just a year long as the case is with some ABSN Programs.

Specializes in ICU / PCU / Telemetry / Oncology.

A one year accelerated ADN is a waste of time and money for someone with a prior bachelors. Might as well get an accelerated BSN in the same time period. ADN with a prior non-nursing bachelors does NOT equate to a BSN when looking for jobs!

Specializes in Emergency, Trauma, Critical Care.

Have to agree with paco on this... We've got some travelers who wanted to become staff but because their bachelors was in another field, they wouldn't hire them as staff....

Specializes in Family Nursing & Psychiatry.

I hope there isn't a program like this. The shortening of nursing programs is such a scary mess.

Specializes in L&D, infusion, urology.

You're better off doing a 16 month BSN program. ADN + other bachelor's do not = BSN, and you will need a BSN to work almost anywhere in CA.

Even my traditional BSN program through SSU was only 2 years (20 calendar months). Do your research for BSN programs.
