Did anyone apply to UCLA's MECN Program for Fall 2009?

Just wondering if anyone else applied to this program. I went to UCLA for undergrad but I pretty much think I have no shot of getting into this grad program.

Does anyone know anything about how many people they admit? What they are looking for?

too scared...

too scared...

Awww I was too, but it's better than putting yourself through torture everyday!

Hello everyone,

I wish I would've found this thread sooner. There was a question asked several pages back about the chances of being accepted if you applied a second time. I don't know the statistics for that, but I applied to the MECN program in 08 and was rejected. I applied again this year. And I received the admission notice from Shelli by snail mail last wk and the graduate admissions e-mail this morning. So from my experience, I'd say go for it and apply again, what can you lose?

After I found out that I didn't get in last year, I made an appt with Suzette to go over my application and she pointed out some areas of my application that may not have been strong enough: grades, 'life experience,' and some changes to the personal statement.

Obviously, I can't change my grades unless I decided to take the pre-reqs all over again (which I didn't). I had new letters of recs, and made some revisions on my personal statement with more focused objectives of what I will do with an MSN. Throughout both application cycles, I worked (mostly administrative) and volunteered in a health care setting.

One thing to note: I applied to the University of San Diego as well and did not even get an interview.

So you didn't improve your grades the second time round and they accepted you?

Congrats!

I guess perseverence is key!

I know the tread is a little old but I am applying for CSUDH CNL program and have an interview next week. I understand they want you to write during the interview process. I am really nervous about that aspect of the interview. Any advice you can give?

Hello, I was wondering if students work part-time during the MECN program. Would it be advisable to work or not to work, perhaps based on experience or observation? Thank you so much!

Thanks everyone! NFSA08 and BerryGood30, did you guys have to complete the 6 week CNA course through SCROC during the summer before the program started? It seems that the first class in 06 had to complete the program but I'm not sure if UCLA made it mandatory for all other classes. Also, the tentative schedule that I received during orientation has students taking 17 units for the first Fall quarter. That seems like a lot of units. I am used to the quarter system but the most I have taken is 12 units. Did you guys feel overwhelmed?

Congrats MECN2009! I got accepted too and am taking the epidemiology class this summer at ucla (in about a month)! I am overwhelmed a bit... the course load seems to be extra heavy... i am used to the quarter system as well, but averaging 12-14 units... not 17. i wish i can meet some MECN students before the program! Will you or anyone of you in the mECN program for fall 2009 be working?

I'm planning on applying to this program this Fall. Do you mind sharing your stats (GPA, grades in prereqs, etc.) and any parts of your application that you think were really helpful in gaining your acceptance? Thanks!!
