CSUSB Fall 2013 Applicants

U.S.A. California

Published

Hi all! I'm a bit surprised I couldn't find a thread already started on this, so I finally decided to join AllNurses and start it myself :)

As many may have discovered by now, the prerequisites for CSU San Bernardino's nursing program have changed:

1. BIOL 220 (Microbiology)

2. BIOL 223 (Anatomy & Physiology I)

3. BIOL 224 (Anatomy & Physiology II)

4. CHEM 205 (Fundamentals of Chemistry: General Chemistry)

5. COMM 120 or Hon 104C 9Oral Communication)

6. CRITICAL THINKING

7. ENG 107, 104a, 104b, or 106 (Freshman Composition)

8. MATH 115 (Ideas of Math)

As such, I felt as if I couldn't look to previous average acceptance scores and GPAs to measure the probability I'll be accepted.

This thread is for anyone who has applied for Fall 2013 (let's share the anxiety of waiting for letters, lol), anyone who has questions about applying to CSUSB's BSN program in general, or anyone who has been accepted and would be so kind as to offer advice (please?).

Thanks in advance, and good luck to all!

I guess I'll start off by saying I'm a CSUSB student of 2 years (transferred from RCC).

I just got my TEAS score back with a score of 84.7.

My GPA (if I can manage to get a B in BIOL223 in which I'm struggling like crazy with Noriega) is 3.50.

Overall, I would have 36/54 points in regards to admission criteria. Not exactly the number I wanted, but enough to try! If I don't get in for Fall, I'll be retaking BIOL 224 and CHEM 205 for A's.

This all makes me anxious mostly because I started working in high school and had moved out when I was a sophomore (for personal reasons). As I went up in my job, my education began to suffer, and I finally quit last November. Now my grades are back up and I was able to participate in this application period despite a peer adviser telling me I would have to wait another year to apply and to rethink my career goals. There are times I've been so depressed, but 2013 has been so good to me so far. I'm so scared I won't get in, and I don't know what to do if I don't.

Have any of you been in college 4+ years and are still waiting to get into a program or have finally been accepted? If so, what are you doing while waiting / what did you do while you waited?

Specializes in ER, IICU, PCU, PACU, EMS.

Hello everyone! when i went to talk to an advisor she told me that the lowest points for fall 2012 was 37/50 (3.71 GPA, 80% TEAS) or something like that. I applied for both campuses so I hope to get into one. I have 38/50 points.

Jasmic- I've been in college for 4+ years and i have retaken some classes to improve my GPA this is my second time applying so dont give up, im sure you have worked way to hard to give up now. Meanwhile I wait I have been taking all my upper division classes and I have a great job on the side so I guess it helps. but I cant wait to get in the program and finish.

Hi everyone! I was excited to see that someone started this thread! So thank you, Jasmic! I applied to the BSN program at CSUSB for Fall 2013, along with regular admission to the University for Fall 2013. I am a transfer student, but sadly, I am out of the local area so I need to wait a while longer for CSUSB to review my application for admission to the university.

My stats are:

Pre-req. GPA:4.0,

overall GPA:3.9 (though I don't think it matters),

TEAS score: 88%,

2 letters of recommendation,

attended the pre-nursing advisory session,

and I live in Riverside county, which also counts toward points I believe since it's in the Inland Empire.

I'm so nervous! Does anyone know for sure if Riverside county counts toward the 5 residency points? I'm positive the instructor at Transfer Day said all of Inland Empire counts toward residence points, but I just am curious what other people have heard...

Anyways, Good luck, everyone! :)

@Jesses*girl: Thank you for the encouragement. I'm wondering if they'll count BIOL224 / CHEM205 during spring if I do happen to get an A in one or both. I was told to bring back my PAWS by July 1st, so we'll see. The wait is sure to be excruciating.

@nj892: The most up-to-date version of the scoring sheet says you can live in San Bernardino OR Riverside county. With your grades and TEAS score, though, I wouldn't worry about it -- assuming you have bilingual proficiency, you're as good as in with 49/50 points :)

@ Jasmic: Thanks for getting back to me! The up to date scoring sheet? Wait, how are you figuring the points out? I was told about a year ago how the points were given out, and I didn't know they changed it. If you don't mind me asking, and if you have the time, could you tell me where to find it or type it out for me. I'm just curious how it changed! I do not have bilingual proficiency. That's the one thing I lack. Last I knew it was worth 1 point, and by the time I finally figured out I wanted to be a nurse, it was too late to take the classes. I'm hoping it doesn't effect me too badly.

@nj892: I couldn't find it online. I hope you don't mind that I don't really want to type everything out; I'll give you the basic idea for each category :)

I'm getting so antsy and depressed, and it's barely been a few days since I turned in the application. I'm trying to come up with backup plans (e.g. ADN/LVN programs I can still apply to, CNA/MA classes that might help, hospitals to volunteer at). I'm even considering going out of state. My family is mostly pushing me because it's been so long since I graduated high school, but I can only work with what I have and try to be better. I hope patience, dedication, and not listening to all the negativity around me pays off...

@ Jasmic: Okay, that is pretty much the same thing I was told a year ago. Haha Of course, I wouldn't want to type the entire thing out either! Thank you though!!! :) I know, it's only been a little while, but it's so nerve-racking. Try not to worry though, no use in getting upset when you don't know the outcome yet! Patience, dedication, and not paying attention to negativity always pays off! Try to stay positive. Truthfully, I'm not quite sure what I'll do if I'm not accepting either. I think I'll just apply for Winter admission... It's good to have a back-up plan to fall back on, but hope and expect the best! Also, it doesn't matter if it's been a while since high school, what matters is that you are doing something! Things take time, but that's okay. In the end, you'll be in a profession that you love and you'll be happy.

So, I applied last year. They didn't tell me that because like 2 classes from my previous school was not at CSUSB I had to get them approved (even though I already had been a student at CSUSB) I was rejected. My scores were NOT high...my GPA was 3.40, my teas was like 79.8 and all of my grades were As and Bs. I feel like CSUSB has a very high standard. I refused to apply again and applied to LLU and CBU. I was waitlisted for LLU and accepted at CBU for their EL MSN program! I wouldn't be nervous because you will get into the school that God intends you to be!

Also, ------------ changed so much. I retook AP2 and the first time I took AP1 in the summer, we had quizzes every Monday and a test every Thursday. It kept the info fresh. As fat as AP2, we had the original 2 tests and a final! The ONLY way to so well is to keep up with it! I got an A and B in there so it's doable! Good luck! Oh and BTW ------------- will ALWAYS help you grasp any material of you go to him and ask!

Oh and also, the first round I did APU (rejected) APU 2+2 (rejected) and CSUSB (rejected). I continued to take classes to improve my GPA and retook anything I thought I could. To be honest, God truly led me to CBU because I didn't even know they had an EL MSN program and was trying to apply to Their undergrad program...the advisor steered me towards the EL MSN and I got in!

Thank you both for the encouragement :)

As previously said, I took the TEAS on 2/23, and I received an email this week stating because of a medical issue that occurred during our exam (something happened out in the hall; I still don't know exactly what happened, but someone was moaning loudly and running around), we are allowed to retake the test for free on March 30th and still have it count toward this Fall's application! I'm so excited and am going to power through my ATI study guide these next two weeks!

Also, my BIOL 223 professor had a moment of clarity after talking with the head lab instructor and announced yesterday he would be giving everyone 60 extra credit points plus another potential 60 for a group paper he was requiring us to do, making an A completely possible if I kick butt on the final.

When life offers second chances like these, you can bet I won't pass them up. Good luck to all!
