CSUSB Fall 2012 Hopefuls

U.S.A. California

Published

Hey everyone!

Well we made it mighty far and now we are done with pre reqs and on to applying!

I am applying to the 2012 cohort and would like to invite everyone else that is applying to post here for any questions, concerns or comments!

Well I am about to put in my application. So far I have all pre reqs done, pending algebra this winter intersession. My Teas test is done, my letters of rec are on their way and basically all I am waiting for is final transcripts!

Good luck to everyone who applied

Let the wait begin!

If I remember correctly, there are three different sessions so I would say you have to do it before the last one.

This just really ticks me off that I have to shovel out $165 to this school before I even know whether I am accepted or not. This is riduculous. I am not made of money.

They should let you know before the deposit and orientation. That way us tranfers wont have to waste our money....

Now I have to pay and schedule this orientation, and my chances of getting in are rather slim anyway.

They shouldn't take almost 6 months to release notifications. They shouldn't let spring grades in progress either. My pre req grades were done by Feb. Grades for pre reqs should have been done and due in March. ARGH.............

sorry for the rant but this is riduculous....

While I do understand your frustration with having to wait, I can't say that I agree with your viewpoints.

First, I know that having to pay this money out is a difficult thing to do, especially when it's uncertain if we will even be accepted or not. However, California is in a fiscal crisis and unfortunately, that transfers down to the colleges as well. In order to ensure that students are serious about attending the school, and thus the program, the college has instituted the policy of requiring a deposit. If you think about it, this actually helps you by eliminating competition from those who are not truly serious about attending the program. You have already stated that if we are not admitted into the program, you have received assurances that you will get your money back so the $100 is not an issue. In regards to the $65, you might also find out if that is refundable or not. If so, no harm, no foul. If it is not refundable, then I would consider that money spent as a gamble. I'm sure that people play the lottery, go to Las Vegas, buy stocks, etc. with far more money than $65 for, in my opinion, a much less important reason. When I look at in that light, $65 is a worthwhile bet, even in the odds are stacked against me.

Secondly, in regards to not accepting in progress grades, I think CSUSB is doing the best they can with what they have to work with. Perhaps my opinion on this matter is somewhat biased, since I myself have a current course in progress, but for arguments sake, I would like to share my opinion. The finances are difficult on everyone right now and the nursing program is making do the best they can with their financial situation. I'm sure they would LOVE to accept groups of 80 students three times a year. However, since they have such limited resources, they have to be very selective on who they let in to ensure that they have those students with the highest probability of success. And since they can't accept students all year long, they have to ensure that they allow adequate time for all students to be able to apply. You stated that you had your prereqs completed in February. This leads to me to believe that your community college offers a winter session. This is wonderful, since due to yet again, limited budgets, many community colleges, mine included, do not. I am grateful that CSUSB is allowing me to finish my course in progress so that I also have a chance to apply for the fall session. Because my community college can't provide as many courses or as many terms as several others can, I've already been delayed in my education for far longer than I care to. I'm a veteran and I get priority registration, but due to the limited course offerings, it will have taken me nearly 3 years to complete my prereqs. If I was able to attend another college with a better course offering, I am certain I could have been done in a year and a half tops.

Anyways, I hope that I didn't upset or offend you. I just wanted to share my view on our current situation. I don't like waiting any more than the next person, but I feel that given the current state of things, CSUSB is being pretty fair and reasonable.

Wow....

I guess we can agree to disagree.

Oh the side note: Thank you for serving.

Good luck everyone!

I thought the $65 was paid up front? My bad....they told me it will be taken out when I register for classes. Whew.....I am getting poorer by the second. I am also going to the orientation this Saturday.

Oh and I also changed my address to SB county since I am moving there. I already told them and admissions I was moving to SB county. By the time they evaluate my app I will be in SB county and should get the points. Whoo! I hope this ups my chances of getting in!

CSULA rejected me so this is my last chance.

Crossing fingers

Hey I was wondering if you're going to a nursing orientation this saturday or is it one for transfer students new to the school?

The orientation that I am going to on Saturday is for transfers into the university not the nursing program. Many different majors will be there. Are you going as well?

Its at 9 right!?

Orientation was pretty fun. It actually calmed some of my fears. I really pray we all get in. The campus is pretty nice as well. :)
