CSUS Fall '11 Hopefuls....??

U.S.A. California

Hello!

I was wondering if anyone is/has applied to CSUS for Fall '11. If so, what are your points looking like? How did you do on the TEAS exam (pretty tough huh?) I want to compare info!!! :D

oaktown-I'm in section 3 at UCDMC, where my husband works, so I'm secretly happy that I might be able to have lunch with my husband once a week! I agree with your comment on the VA hospital. That should be an interesting clinical location, although I think they all have very unique benefits. I'm pretty glad that my clinical isn't in Roseville though because it's just that much further away.

I agree with you on that checklist of things to do. I go between planning, getting things done and having slight panic attacks about how much needs to be done. I'm really very excited to start.

davismom - definitely agree that they will all have advantages and even more so about not having to drive to Roseville! Location wise I am very happy with my clinical spot. I think I will start to feel more relaxed once I find a place to live, but right now I am being picky regarding that. However, I can always lower my requirements if nothing works out!

Would be great for you to be able to meet up with your husband. What does he do there?

oaktown-where are you looking for places? Have you ever lived in the sacramento area? I really love east sac, myself.

My husband works in administration in the Dean/Vice Chancellor's office at UCDMC so his office is right across from the hospital. Since we have kids, we don't often get a chance to have a meal alone, so this is exciting.

davismom - nope, never lived in Sac. I actually know very little about it, though I am looking forward to learning more! I am currently looking near Sac State and have heard good things about East Sac. If you have any suggestions on places to look (totally understand if you don't) I would love to hear them. Right now I am just looking on craigslist and just not finding much.

You may want to see whether SacState publishes their school newspaper during the summer as they may have some ads in there for places to live. I actually used to live on 54th street in East Sac and on 43rd before that. East Sac is great. Midtown is livelier but also has a little more crime. River Park (right next to Sac State) is really nice as well. If I think of anything in particular, I'll let you know.

@Oaktown2

Sorry to butt into your conversation, but I had orientation last week at Sac. The school newspaper had a few apartments around school. My husband and I are also moving to Sacramento before Fall semester. Hope this helps =) Here are the apartments.....

Butting is in good when you've got very specific information. :D I lived near there for five years, but both times in houses (our last rental and then first purchased home), so I can tell you which areas are safer and where to eat and shop, but haven't lived in apartments near there. That said, I have driven past the uppereastsidelofts on 65th many times in the last few years and dos coyotes, a great local mexican chain, is on the ground floor. It's reasonable, huge portions, and good food.

Look forward to meeting both of you! Welcome to the area!

Thanks itsmeehlizie and davismom! (And as I was putting this all out on a public forum, I don't see it as butting in at all!) I will definitely check out the places that you both mentioned.

Hello to all. I'm a new member and reading the threads for more information and better understanding. My daughter wants to be RN. She has done most of her pre-reqs except anatomy (currently taking during summer), physilogy and chem2b. Her gpa is not that great around 3.5 but she has work history and volunteer hrs.

Which book is good for TEAS? Anyone wants to sell it if you still has it?

Anymore tips for us?

does anyone know if our clinical assignment locations will remain the same for entire 2 years in BSN program or do they change each semester? also, I saw some postings regarding special interest in a clinical assignment at Veteran's. I wasn't sure if there were particular advantages/disadvantages in one clinical assignment over another. I expected all clinical experiences to be the same regardless of location...is this not true? thanks!

one more thing, is anyone out there finding themselves having to add on additional upper division GE requirements (in particular the 9 units that MUST be completed in residence at CSUS) to their already intense nursing schedule? I'm stressing b/c I have to take Pharm in Fall '11 + 2 GE classes per my counselor's advice at the transfer orientation.

I was under the impression that clinicals change each semester, but I don't actually know that for a fact.

My guess is that clinicals are pretty much the same, though each hospital system is a little different. I just have an interest in the Veterans population which is why I wanted to be there.

Sorry, can't help on the last one as I don't believe that it applies to me.
