U.S.A. California

Hey everyone so I have been waiting for a couple of years to finally have all of the pre-reqs done to be able to apply to nursing school. I am finally finished and am just waiting for CSULB-elmsn's program which will start in Fall 2011. I want to know who else is planning on applying so we can have each other to go through the process with and I'm not going to lie I would really like to see what the competition is like. Goodluck to everyone. I look forward to meeting you in the fall!

nice, im applying to the same LA schools, plus three in SF area, and a couple out of state. all msn programs. so many apps...haha

wow, that's great!!! i had originally picked 10 schools! but i figured there was no way I would be able to complete that many applications due to the fact that Im still in school and am working two jobs at the moment! :(

If 2011 doesnt work out for me I will apply to all next year. hopefully, though, I get in somewhere :)

You guys are crazy with all of those applications I am sure you have to get into at least a couple of them. I am only applying to CSULB so I am keeping my fingers crossed. Ironically CUSF does not take the chem class I took and CSULB does... and since UCLA and ms. St mary is really far way from me my only choice is CSULB I applied to Saddleback for fall 2010 but didn't get accepted. Good luck to both you of you. I know fall 2011 is so far away but I am already a nervous reck! :)

I hope you are right! These schools are so damn competitive I can't help getting into my moments thinking I don't stand a chance :( my grades are not the strongest but I progressed from getting b's and c's to almost straight A's my last couple years in college and i have never taken a break from school since high school grad and I have lots of extracurricular, work, and volunteer experience, perhaps about 30% nurse/medical related but 100% of it is definetly service related. I'm scared to death and incredibly nervous. I ruled out CSULB because first of all my overall GPA doesnt even meet the requirement but also because they seem to look only at academic performance. Mine is def not the best but I honestly feel like I make up for it in so many ways!!! That's the one thing I am confident of.

Either way, good luck to ALL OF US and let's all hope that we are successful and someday become awesome :nurse:'s! (been wanting to use that nurse smily lol)

That is funny because I have been our of school for 5 years and in management in a completely different field than nursing. I have no work experience or volunteer experience because I don't have enough time with my job to volunteer and go to school. So ironically CSULB since their admittance is purely academic based they are perfect for me! :) Funny how that works out. I can't wait to say we are all nurses. It already feels like it has been a long journey just getting the pre-reqs done and really the journey hasn't even started.

yea- im hoping this is the one and only time I have to apply to schools. my fingers are crossed!! I just graduated from college, so I have the year to plan applications. But I still feel as if its tough to do so many apps. I couldnt imagine doing it while going to school. claudia- your volunteer/work exp will help you out alot! and schools love it when you show progress throughout school. you'll do just fine. Im with you malefocker, I like csulb because it is academic based : ) Its too bad that they dont just look at your jr/sr gpa though.

malefocker, i found your thread! My first choice is san marcos so im really banking on that but I'm on the lower end of the point scale so I'm just crossing my fingers! :uhoh21: haha

I'm applying to Long Beach for kicks but I can tell you straight up that my scores are not competitive. When I figure out where I stand on the 10 point scale Ill let you know.

I hope you get it since it IS your first choice! As a CSULB grad, I absolutely loved my school and miss it even now! Plus they just finished remodeling the nursing building! GO BEACH.

Awesome! Thanks for the words of encouragement! I am keeping my fingers crossed that I get in otherwise I will hopefully be going to San Marcos so I may see you. Let me know if you get into San Marcos. I am sure I will read your thread when you apply to the San Marcos one. I am addicted... I can't stop reading the threads I constantly think of new things to look up and research. Goodluck!

Hey everyone,

I'm applying to the EL-MSN program as well! I'm currently finishing my bachelors at CSULB - if it wasn't for being on the website all the time for school I would have had no idea that they received funding for the program! One more program to increase my odds of getting in somewhere.

So we do or do not put our personal statement on the CSU mentor app?

Hey!!! Glad to know someone else is applying. I put my personal statement and references but after I submitted it I was informed that we were supposed to leave that section blank. Whoops! Anyway welcome to the thread... How do you like CSULB? What have you heard about their elmsn program? Sorry for all the questions I am just excited to find another person that is interested in Long Beach. That is crazy about their funding issue. I am convinced that this year they are going to have far less applicants for the simple fact that unless you are checking the website all the time and are planning 10 months in advance there is no way to know that they received funding. Are you applying to anywhere else? What are your grades like? lol... sorry again for all the questions! I am glad to have another person to go through this process with.

Glad that you joined the thread! Also I wouldnt have found out about the program- and definitely would not be applying if you had not told me. Thanks! Regarding CSUmentor, the coordinator told me that we dont put the personal statement or the references on the application.

i actually haven't heard much about the elmsn program. most of the students in my pre-reqs were going for the traditional bsn, which is also extremely competitive.

i like csulb; they just opened the new rec center which has a gorgeous gym with all this high tech equipment, so that's pretty cool. i was very upset regarding the budget cuts because my tuition was raised 3 times, but now it may be an advantage since many students believe this program was cut. i can only hope the cut off is not as high as it was last year…

i’m applying to ucla, csun, mount st mary’s, csulb, csuf, and concordia university. as for grades i have a 3.4 gpa overall and a 3.7 in my science pre-reqs. i have approx 300 hours volunteering in two hospitals so i’m hoping that will help me in some way – at least they will read about it in my personal statement. i know it’s a really competitive program (they all are), so i’m just applying to as many as possible with the hope of getting into at least one! i also may apply to a couple community college programs too.

thanks for the info about the csu mentor app!

Psych_Nurse have you taken the TEAS yet? Also your grades seem very competitive for CSULB the TEAS test is going to be important for your application since they do not take into account any volunteer or work experience as part of their admittance process.
