Hey Mr. Suave,

Well i'm in the same boat as you, waiting, waiting, waiting..

For my prereqs GPA= 3.67, overall= 3.2 (really bad I know), TEAS ENG=5 READ=4, and employment in healthcare work experience too, so I believe that puts me at a total of 23 points.

What is your total score? Do you know how many students they admit? Do you know the average score that a person would most likely be admitted with?

sorry for the late response. ( I lost my password)

For my prereqs GPA= 3.88, overall= 3.83, TEAS ENG=5 READ=3, and employment in healthcare work experience too, so it puts me at 26 points. (although I did the TEAS twice, they calculate the BEST possible points based on BOTH assessments- I found this out from my honors adviser who asked the nursing dept.)

from what I remembered last year, there were only 50 slots for the fall cohort. (it is unknown for spring)

Unfortunately, CSULA SON does not give priority to their students, so it is basically anyone's game.

Thus, 35 transfers were accepted to CSULA SON and only 15 were actual students coming from CSULA.

Last year, the lowest cut off that I heard was 24 (people with 23 they were either on the wait list, or got in with consideration from a unique distinction- letter of req or health related work experience)

But it changes every year. There may be another discrepancy of CSULA students again because there was a 60% fail rate (C- or below) in Micro 201 in the fall of 2010. Although Micro WILL NOT be instrumental of calculating your pre req GPA this term, it does however count for your overall GPA and that you MUST have a passing grade (along with Communications 150) before June 22.

Since Micro 201 WILL NOT be offered in the Spring 2011, along with the fact that Community Colleges finishing spring semester after June 22, it would be hard for the 60% of students to re-take micro and get a passing grade.

So, depending on the circumstances, the point cut off might be different.

But I did hear that CSULA SON would be accepting more than 50 (75-100) since budget cuts are not that severe as they were last year. However, there will not be a Spring Cohort.

This is my first time applying for a nursing program, and I have done my research.

An arguably striking fact that I found, based on the statistics, it seems to me that they also rank based on ethnicity. (it doesn't make sense when there is always a certain ratio of Whites, Blacks, Latinos, Asians, as well as a certain ratio of Female to Males every year).

I really do not find that just, and most nursing schools would not admit to it, but the statistics have always been relatively uniform each year.

whether that is a coincidence or what, I will not argue with that.

But, if, hypothetically, that theory is true, although I have a relatively high score, it may not be an exemplary score based on my ethnic cohort.

So I do not know about that. If you can find out, that would be great!!!

Okay thanks for all the info, you were really informative. Wow a score of 26? You're pretty much a shoe-in.

I really hope that they do open up more slot this semester so we all can get a better chance. This is the only school i'm applying to =/

I'm kind of confused about the discrepancy over Micro. Are you saying people who haven't taken Micro yet will have a harder time to get in?

As for the ranking on ethnicity and gender, thats pretty awful. It must be a plus for you however, since you are a male.

Have you received anything int the mail yet? Last week I received a letter stating that I was disqualified for not sending in my ATI scores, when I had proof that I did! So I called and Monica asked me to email her my scores. So I did. Then I asked if I was still qualified and she replied by sending me a link in the application that says "May 15 - you will be notified of your acceptance, please do not call blah blah" it was kind of rude and very unhelpful. I wasn't asking if I was accepted, I just wanted to know if I'm still qualified.

Anyways let me know if you hear any updates or new info =]

well they have to consider both test, like they promised to do. otherwise, if they don't take the second test into consideration, it is a 23. So I am hoping that both tests were sent via ATI testing (since your testing fee pays them to do it for you) and that the department has seen both test.

Yes, people who haven't taken micro or are in the position to re-take it (C- or below), it would be hard to apply for this fall 2011, since the class isn't offered this spring at CSULA, and if they take it in a semester Junior college, the deadline to submit the grades for micro would conflict with the spring semester. Thus, if you take the class in a spring semester system, your grades would not submit on time before June 22 because of the quarter/sem conflict.

I really hope that the race/gender thing isn't true, since it is hard not to believe that it is true when there is always a certain ratio of students which seem correlated to these variables.

Although I am male, that isn't necessarily the determining factor of getting in since only 1 of 4 of my male friends, who were candidates last year, made the program for the fall of 2010. if I knew more guys, chances are, the same odds of 15-20% in getting the program would be the same as the majority of applicants last year (50 of 400 people got in, and I remembered that about 25% of the 400 had to drop because they didn't finish classes on time or other variables).

wow last week? Knock on wood, nothing has been sent to me based on that concern.

But, There is a good chance that you are still qualified for admission, since I read on the fall 2010 thread that there was a similar incident like this, and that they were still qualified. if I find it, I'll send you the link

Yeah that ATI place isn't very good with sending scores apparently because I sent mine in November, I have a receipt in my emails for proof. You should call and check to be on the safe side.

Thankfully I already took Micro and its already calculated into my overall GPA. Do you think 3.2 GPA is competitive enough? I know its above the minimum requirement, but it still worries me.

The reason why I said it would work in your favor is because I heard nursing schools in general take a liking to male applicants, since its majority female that apply. But who knows?

You really shouldn't worry you have a 26, that a really great score.

Yeah, that's a good idea.

that is great that you took micro! As for competitiveness, overall GPA isn't really the determining factor of the "points" system since it only accounts for up to 5 points. The determining factor is the pre-req and TEAS, which accounts up to 2/3 of the application. You shouldn't worry much about your overall GPA if your pre-req GPA TEAS are high enough to compensate for that. plus, you got the extra point for work experience, something that most applicants do not have because they only volunteer.

hmm... I didn't know that the majority did. I'll keep that in mind :)

yeah I did notice that. if you read carefully, the individual was saying stuff about the CSULA system, not long beach, and how ATI did not submit his scores to the dept.

I got into APU (the school) and I have applied for the Nursing program Spring 2012 cohort. It is still unfortunate though, since they will re-locate the majority of transfer students to take nursing at their Desert location at Victorville, CA because of the impaction of the field.

God knows that there is nothing out there in Victorville for me,

so I'm praying every day that I don't have to resort to the huge expenses at APU.

The only class I need to take for APU is chem 152.

but I decided next quarter, since there is a good chance of me making it at CSULA if all goes well, I plan not to take chem 152 and I am scheduled to take all of my upper division GE's (maturing and aging) in the spring, and take 152 (if I need to) in the summer at APU.

so that when fall starts, all be ready just to take nursing major courses and no theme.
