Concordia University Irvine ABSN Summer 2012

U.S.A. California

Hello everyone

Now that the due date is less than a week, I wanted to start a fresh thread for those who are applying for summer 2012.

Let me introduce myself first..

As you can tell from my user name I am a husband and a daddy (two year old daughter and soon to be born baby boy). I did my undergrad at USC (biology) but worked in the restaurant business for 5 years. I always wanted to work in health related field so that's why I am applying to Concordia!

For application, I am done except for the statement of intent, hopefully I will be done by this weekend!

I would like to wish nothing but the best for everyone!!

Let's get this thread rolling~

For those that have completed the first semester at Concordia's Accelerated BSN program, how do you like it so far? Is it overwhelming considering the amount of units you have to carry each semester? Please share your experiences as I would like to apply to the program. :)

Have not started yet. Summer 2012 cohort starts nursing core late August. The 2 online theology courses required by the school start next week. I will try to remember and post again some time in December when first semester wraps up.

For those of you who applied for Summer, when did you start finding out if you got an interview or were declined? I know applications for Fall were only due last Friday, but I am anxious!

BeesMama,

Our apps were due Feb 1. I got my email to interview on March 1. I know some people got the invite the day before and interviews were held on Friday the 16th and Monday the 19th. We had admissions letters in hand by April 2nd or 3rd, I believe. It can be excruciating to wait but now it all feels like a blur.

Good luck! Hang in there!

DoulaJess is spot on. While the wait was agonizing and the days seemed to drag on, looking back it went quite fast. Some people I have spoken to wait several months for other programs. Concordia is pretty fast in choosing candidates and they were actually early in announcing interviews and acceptance for our cohort. Just be ready to jump for joy when you get that invitation to interview and hopefully a big beautiful white envelope a few weeks later with the magic word: Congratulations!

I just read every single comment on this thread! That is how excited/nervous I am to apply to Concordia. I type this from home with a baby sleeping in my arms LOL I will be applying for Summer 2013 term and already can't wait! For those of you that have young children, how do you expect to be able to deal with the demanding schedule of classes, study time and clinicals?

I have two little ones - my older son is almost 3 and my younger son is 9 months. I have an incredibly supportive husband. Also, the only big challenge will be figuring out clinicals - because that is a longer time commitment. I'm not overly concerned about classes and studying because I have been in school for a few years now.

@Beesmama how many hours does your hubby work a week? Unfortunately, mine works a lot and unpredictable days and hours so I can only ask him to do so much :/ Are you in the program right now? I know that taking prereq classes and the ABSN program are totally different since the ABSN is so much more demanding in hours and credits. In a perfect world, one of our parents would be retired so they could watch him, but we will probably take out loans for child care once I'm in the program.

EhKim, my husband has a full time job as well. One good thing is that it is 12 hour shifts so it is only 3-4 days a week. Thankfully he is incredibly supportive and helpful.

I work 45-55 hours a week usually and have been taking 6-9 units for to complete my pre-reqs, in addition to having two little ones-so different kind of demanding but I have definitely had to figure out creative studying habits. I also worked full time all throughout college, so only going to school will be a new experience for me!

I do plan on quitting and we will be taking out loans to help what we will be losing in income from my quitting.

I just got my invite to the interview. All of this is also going through my head, as I have a 16 month old and a 5 year old. I also have a very supportive husband and family who will be helping me out. I just think of it has it is only one year of our lifetime and I am willing to make these hard sacrifices to have a career that I really long for. I will be taking out loans to help pay for school and possibly child care. In the end it will all be worth it! @BeesMama did you get an invite??? I have been reading your post fro the last couple of months now. I hope you did :)

Thank you to all the summer applicants, all your feedback was very helpful and appreciated.@jreilly906 I too got an email invite for July 19. I am hopeful but very nervous.

Hey everybody I applied for the ABSN program that starts in Jan 2013...and was wondering if anybody has gone through the program or is currently enrolled and what the impressions are? I have heard some negative things about the school and am hoping there not true. Any info anybody has would be awesome! Thanks!!
