Bay Area New Grad Programs in 2011

U.S.A. California

Hello,

Does anyone know of any hospitals in the bay area that will be offering new grad programs in 2011? Thanks in advance and good luck to everyone out there.

I applied for the UC Davis Birth Center. Has anyone heard anything yet? The status has been listed as "routed" for two weeks now. Did you all apply for both positions or just one?

I really wish there were more new grad positions in the bay area to sacramento regions... Most of the new grad programs I find have been so-cal. =(

I haven't heard anything from UC Davis either.

Specializes in NICU.

mine app status says "interview" for picu. has anyone gotten a call for an interview because i haven't yet

Specializes in NICU, ED, L&D.

I spoke to HR at UC Davis and she said that they have not yet called for interviews for The Birth Center but PICU interviews have all been scheduled. I guess the status is generic not specific to each applicant and when it changes to Interview then those that have been chosen to interview for the unit will already have been contacted. I do not know how many applicants they received, does anyone know?? good luck ... i am sure we will either way soon !!

Specializes in postpartum, newborn, geriatric/LTC.

To confirm: yes, the Status for your app applies to ALL applicants - it means nothing about your individual app. It's a pretty shoddy system, in my opinion. It gives many of us false hope....

I don't understand the mysterious filtering process of UCDMC... I'm dying to know who these imaginary fabulous candidates are who are getting called for their NG positions. Apparently not me - for any unit! I've been applying since January.

I am a UC Davis alum (undergrad, 2004), former UC Davis employee, have my BSN from Duke (Dec 2010), and had a Maternal-Newborn preceptorship and excellent references... but not a single call - even for the Birth Center position!

I feel like there must either be something mysteriously repellent about me, or there are some ridiculously-perfect candidates who I can't even envision when I try very hard. Other possibility: internal candidates who've precepted there? That's the only other "inside" group I can think of, but I'm not sure who they would be - since UCD does not currently have RN/BSN students. I suppose they could be CSUS or Sac City students? Anyone know anything about students precepting at UCDMC?

I swear: what on earth is wrong with all of us - unless it's that we aren't already on a superspecial inside list??

Do I sound frustrated? No....

You have a strong resume with your educational background :yeah: You should be marketable. Shouldn't you have a priority in job applications within the UC system?

My daughter could not apply in the Bay Area because there's hardly any New Grad Programs so will stay in SoCal. CHLA is accepting new grad, USC application is up. Stanford should be up soon.

Good luck to you, you will eventually get something and something good will come your way.

Oh, you are too kind :) Yes, I thought I was a strong applicant, but I feel much less so after 200+ apps, 2 interviews, and 0 offers since graduating in December 2010.... the CA market is *brutal*.

And I thought I had some 'in' at UCDMC too, but maybe they only care if you're a UCDHS employee. I am a former UC Davis employee (2003-2009 - Dept of Environmental Science), but not UCD *Health System* employee. It's sad if that 6 years means nothing :(

I agree that there really is very little up here - especially in Sac. FYI: the Sacramento unemployment rate is almost 13%, Bay area is ~10% and SoCal is a little better - 8-9%. So your daughter (and the rest of us) would do well to keep focusing in SoCal right now. I'm in Davis/Sacramento, and I'm considering moving to the Bay Area just to try and get more temp RN work while I continue to apply for fulltime jobs and New Grad positions. I'm working as an RN with Maxim temp agency in Sacramento, but they're not even getting me half-time hours. I'm barely paying the bills, and my huge Duke student loan comes due in June. But now that I know how high the UE rate is in Sac, I'm not surprised at my pathetic hours. The Bay Area and SoCal may be better for temp agency work.

For anyone else looking to pay the bills while applying to fulltime positions, I recommend Maxim - they took me as a New grad (rare for agencies). They will probably just give you sub-acute, psych and school assignments, but it's something.

Specializes in NICU, Psych.

I totally understand. I too applied for UC Davis Birth Center and was rejected. I even contacted the nurse manager explaining how bad I want this job and still nothing. But the nurse manager for the Birth Center told me that there was a lot of competition this year and that it was tough selecting the applicants for the interview process. She also told me that they were going to start interviewing those who have a BSN, ACLS, NRP, and previous employees or volunteers. If no one was selected out of that pool then they would move on to other candidates. She also informed me that there were a lot of qualified candidates but that they could not interview everyone. Ive been looking for a job too since I graduated in Dec 2010 but Im still hopeful that I will find a job soon because I have student loans that need to be paid as well!

It looks like UC Davis has another new grad position if anybody is still looking.

Specializes in ER, M/S, LTAC.

Stanford Hospital/Lucille Packard New Grad Program now open for applicants.

FYI: BSN Grads Only :sniff:

Hi there, I'm graduating from an out of state BSN program in 2 months and was hoping to move back home to the bay area after graduating. However, after reading the numerous posts from the California forum, it seems to me that the CA nursing market is still pretty horrible from what it was a few years ago? I've read that there are some people who are still looking for jobs 1 year post graduation??? that sounds extremely discouraging......

I'd greatly appreciate any input from anyone who can give me some personal experience they've had post-graduation... those of us who have no connections to any hospitals seem to have a really tough time getting in to a good place to work. Those who found jobs after graduation, how long did it take for you to get hired? Thanks, any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Did anybody apply to the Northbay Healthcare position in Fairfield?
