Has anyone ever worked for or are currently working for Maxim? If so, would you please give your opinion on it? What's your experience like?

They say their employees are their greatest asset, but how do they really treat you? Do they train? Is there support? High turnover?

I live in SoCal and have worked for Maxim for the past year and a half. I know that each office is different, and I have no experience with any except the one I work for.

My experience has been almost entirely positive. There have been some in the office who have been more difficult to deal with than others, but fortunately they did not last long.

Don't expect to be well paid, but the work isn't that hard, and there is time (on my cases, anyway) to do some reading and/or homework. As for orientation, I work with children and the orientation has come entirely from the parents. But if that weren't the case, I'm confident that I'd be able to get the training I needed from my supervisor, who is wonderful.

That having been said, I'm not so sure about the employees being their greatest asset, at least not in general. They love you when you're available when they have a gap to fill, but they'll give you the boot from an assignment just as quick.

The thing I like is that if I want or need time off, whenever, if I give them decent notice (which is only fair), there's never a problem. To me, it's worth not making quite as much hourly to have the flexibility with hours. Additionally, with each semester's schedule being different, they've always accomodated me.

If you do a search in the home health forum, you will find that many of the posts are from people who have worked for Maxim in SoCal. Just today I met a nurse who told me that there has recently been a general housecleaning of sorts in the area. And there is mention of at least one class action lawsuit in the greater Los Angeles area regarding payment of overtime according to the labor laws.

They paid a competitive rate when I started there in 2004, by 2008 they cut our pay twice. Once for 5% and again a year later another 10% due to factors "completely beyond their control" "all agencies are doing this" blah blah blah Turns out that no, other agencies were not doing that, and in fact I moved to another agency who gave me a $1 per hour raise for taking care of the same patient.

So no, from what I experienced- I cannot say they treated us as their "greatest asset". I can't honestly complain about their training, because I only attended one thing- a vent class conducted by a guy who in reality was selling his disposable vent circuits. Orientation for private duty was done by another nurse, a caregiver or a family member.

My main problem with them was that though they say they value you, it doesn't translate into the bank account. The rest of the stuff I could have lived with to keep my hours, but not the pay cut thing.

They advertised yesterday for their flu clinics, at $16 an hour. It is very easy for me to compare this to the company that paid me $26 an hour plus mileage to do flu clinics, ten years ago. Sixteen dollars an hour for RNs? In SoCal? Or anywhere else? The company values gullibility and desperation, not professionalism.

Thanks everyone. No one is really hiring right now, as least not LVNs. And the ones that do want lots of experience.

Sorry to hear that , SMOOTH. Keep checking back with the agencies you want to work for. Things can change quickly in home health. Hope things look up for you soon.:up:

Look at Lescoulies - their office in Newport Beach I think.

Another is LaJolla Nurses, they provide home health to the elite and assignments are usually

sweet! I have worked for both.

Point is try to stay away from the big agencies, maybe find a nurse

owned agency, smaller. you will be happier. All the corp staffing agencies are wrong, bad, go away!

Smooth-- on the Home page of allnurses under the title Allnurses.com there is a row of a tabs. Click on the tab that says "specialty" a drop down menu has 3 choices. The third says "nursing specialties". If you click on that all the specialties are in alphabetical order. There is a tutorial called "gettting started on allnurses.com" and also if you click "my account" you'll get a choice called "user control panel" that helps you do everything. Hope that helps!!
