Any Western Career College Grads?

U.S.A. California

Published

Hi,

I just applied for the LVN program at Western Career College. Do we have any WCC grads out there? Care to share your experience with me? I am really on edge, not knowing what to expect. Still have the HESI A2 exam to go (never heard of this exam; is it difficult?)

Thanks,

Mike

The college is Sacramento City College. In the beginning of 3rd semester, had new LVN students. I need to verify it is WCC, but I know it was that or Heald.... She is a VN in a Nursing home right now and has been in the program with us since the beginning. She was pretty upset when she found out she had to go through the whole program.

I know that SCC's Sutter's program also had a VN from the first semester.

Wow. I'd love to know the "whole story" as they say.

I just noticed your tag. My pops is a retired Colonel out of what used to be McClellan AFB. My Uncle is a retired Colonel (Paratroopers; also served in WWII with the Big Red One), and my grandpa (God rest his soul) was in WWI with Black Jack Pershing.

Wanted to join myself, but I've been an Epileptic since I was 12 (I'm 44 now.) Hope your man isn't where I think he is....if so, I'll include him (and you) in my prayers.

Thank you very much! My husband returned not too long ago.

I will ask on Monday for more of the story. I can also ask the Nsg Dept about WCC and not having to take all the RN classes.

Tell your pops and uncle thank you!

No. They've already been thanked. Long lives, a chance to serve and kids who love them. THANK YOUR MAN for ALL of us. I don't think anyone likes WHY they have to be there, but we ALL understand that they are stepping up to the plate FOR US.

I'm writing from Citrus Heights, so it seems we're both up with insomnia! :lol2:

I am in Roseville. And yes I drive all the way to SCC. :)

*Ouch* Please tell me you don't have to fight morning traffic on the freeways.

My best friend graduated from the Sacramento Western Career College campus last year. He was in for the full 18 months, and seemed like he had a descent time. He graduated last January, then took his nclex a month or two later and has had a job with the local hospital since. He makes about $20 an hour I believe.

Hi YellowSIR,

Welcome to the nuthouse. :lol2:

Thanks for that. Certainly helps calm my over-active nerves. I'm 44 years old now, so I won't get another go at this. Spending the money really doesn't bother me as much as choosing the right school and, of course, passing the nclex. :wink2:

Here in NorCal there seem to be plenty of jobs for both flavors (LVN/RN) and , as I've already stated, my intention is to get out there and WORK, then upgrade to RN at my leisure.

Cheers,

Mike

Must not have been a school in California, because those particular requirements are laid down by the State Nursing Board, not the school. I checked with them before I ever truly gave any serious thought to going to Nursing school. Perhaps your freind wasn't being as forthright as you may have thought.

Mike

At my school (a CSU), it's stated on the website that the prerequisites are acceptable regardless of date completed. I sincerely doubt they're going against anything the Board has said, though I suppose you never know. Did you find this on the website, or did someone at the Board or at a school tell you?

No kidding? What school!

Hmph! I'll be the first to admit that I've been told that number so many times that it might HAVE been a school (and NOT the NB) who stated those requirements.

I'd sure love to find out for SURE though.

I went to the CA BON website, but I can't find ANYTHING to do with pre-reqs.

I'm beginning to wonder....

the school i'm applying to, here in sacramento, (bsn) also takes them from how ever long ago they were taken. my sister in law went back after 20 years (had a accounting degree) and they took all her old science classes.

i talked to wcc 2ish years ago and remember finding out, though some means (don't remember), that classes there have to be repeated if you go to another area college later. don't they have their own bridge program by now though? when i went to talk to them they were planning on starting the lvn-rn within a few months. this was at the watt ave. location.

good luck with whatever you decide!

yeah. i think both wcc and unitek college has bridge programs firmly in place now. university of phoenix has one as well. all of the private schools seem to be getting in on the act. they smell money! :lol2:

thanks! i think i'm leaning towards unitek. seems to be the lesser of the two evils! :uhoh21:
