Questions about Pima medical institute & Carrington college

I am applying at Pima for the RN program now and hoping to get into the January start date. Does anyone if it is really hard to get picked first time around? I was also starting to look into Carrington college because they have several start date but cost more. Not sure what people think of Carrington, is it a good school? Do hospitals look down on Pima or Carrington graduates?" Any advice would help!!

Hi Congrats to trying to get in for January. I am just curious how much is Pima's Associate program for Nursing??? I haven't heard the most wondrous things about the "for profit tech schools" which include Pima and Carrington. I'm guessing you want to start right away so you are willing to pay the extra moolah. I don't know that hospitals look down on the graduates but they are only offering you an Associate's degree, it may be hard for you to get a job as a New Graduate, you may end up working at an LTC or such facility. Will you be doing an RN-BSN program after???

You should look into the CEP program with Maricopa Nursing Concurrent Enrollment Program

There are many pre-reqs and co-reqs required but you can get in right away if you have them done and get a BSN instead of an Associates degree.

I am a graduate of Apollo College, now known as Carrington. The school gave me what I needed to be a successful nurse but the tech school reputation was something that I have had to deal with. Now that I have my bachelors it is not a big deal.

Personally if I had to do it over again I would go to Chamberlain since they have a 3 year bachelors program.

As of right now Pima is 46k total, which is a lot of money but it's nice not to have to wait 2 to 3 years to just start the program. I do want to get my BSN after a year or so after getting my RN. I want to get my feet wet in the field. Awesome I will defiantly look into the CEP program, thank you!! Do,you have your RN or,you still in school?

I'm in Pima now as a Junior. I can tell you that you either meet their standards as a potential student or you don't. It's not like MCC and you are put on a waiting list until a seat opens. After the interview they will decide if you are prepared for the program that they offer and give you a call. If they do not think you are ready for the program you get a letter in the mail so either way you know how to plan for your future nursing career. Good luck!

No, I wrote papers but not what I consider a "bunch." To some people 1 paper is a "bunch."

A BSN program will teach you to, and expect you to write several papers. When I got my BSN I had to write a paper weekly, at least one, and I thank God for it now. I can write P&P, professional letters, and research projects with my eyes closed. Really helps to be able to write professionally if you want to be taken seriously.

Try to find out if your credits are transferable if you go for a BSN. I go to Pima CC and I love it. There was a waiting list, but not as long as rumored. (1 1/2 years) I am happy with the program and the cost is a fraction of a private college.

Most if not nearly all universities have a RN-BSN program where your RN license counts for many of the associate level credits.

Are you at Pima CC or Pima Medical Institute? Can I ask what where your points? Can I ask what you got on the HESI? They are adding up my points now. Did you get in to the start date that you wanted or had to wait until the next start? Any pointers you have for me to get accepted during the interview process would be wonderful. Thank you for your help!
