NAU Spring 2012 Hopefuls

U.S.A. Arizona

Published

Hi everyone, I'm Lily. I am applying to NAU's 2012 program and was hoping for any advice with the HESI A2 (what books to study since I've heard many bad reviews about the review)

I know it's some time away but I am shooting to get in my first time applying!

Also, I was hoping get a ballpark of how many people will be applying for this start date.

Thanks!

Oh - I do have a question. I read in the course pack that one of the classes requires you to pick up patient assignments outside of class/ clinical. Do you know yet how this works? I have two little boys and my youngest is only going to be going to preschool while I'm in class. Just trying to cover my bases for childcare (provided I get in - they need a fingers crossed emoticon).

Thanks

We are just getting to that part of the semester right now, I am assuming you are looking at the syllabus for NUR 205 (clinical). What happens is you have to pass the Mid-term skills checkoff, which we just did yesterday, then next week we have an 8 hour orientation to Devon Gables from 6:30-3:00, which is where we spend the rest of the semester for clinicals. The following week before our next clinical day, in our case Thursday, we have to go to Devon Gables on our own time and look through the patients and pick out one we want to take care of specifically. As I learn more I can post if you want.

Thanks Cliff. Good luck.

Lily - just wanted to say sorry for hijacking your thread:) Maybe you'll get some more 2012 hopefuls soon.

I'm looking at NAU for Spring 2012 as well. I'm looking at both Flagstaff and Tucson. Thanks for the great information so far Cliff and others.

I am a bit concerned about the clinical situation at Flagstaff and need to investigate a bit more.

Thanks Cliff. Good luck.

Please don't worry about that.. All the information being discussed will only help me in the end.

Welcome!

I am also look at both Flag and Tucson. Hopefully we will get more hopefuls and learn more about the new application process in the coming weeks..

Hey everyone.

I'm a spring 2012 hopeful for the Tucson location (1st choice) and Flagstaff location (2nd choice). I know we are only a few months away from the application deadline, but I can't wait! Speaking of applications... as of today, NAU's nursing website does not have the application available because it is being revised. "The new application form will be ready in summer of 2011."

I did read some posts about the entrance exam possibly switching from HESI to Kaplan. Wonder if that is one of the revisions. I hope it doesn't change too much, because I have an old application I am working with until the new one is ready.

Anyway, I am excited to partake in this process with all of you.

Best of luck,

Kyle

I think you're wise to use the old application to get your bases covered. Regarding the exam switch - I haven't heard/ read anything other than what's on here but it appears they have already switched the semester end exam from Hesi to Kaplan. I don't know if that means the entrance exam will switch this semester or not.

I would suggest emailing the Tucson advisor and ask when the next information session will be. They basically don't like to talk to you until you've been to an info session. I imagine it wouldn't be until the end of summer or around the beginning of classes. I'll get in trouble on here if I post the name but I'm sure you can find it if you look around on the website. You could probably call flag too but I always get bounced around when I call them. I have personally had better luck with the Tucson contact. (Rhymes with box). Best of luck.

News!

The entrance exam has officially been changed from the HESI to Kaplan. I have emailed the advisor and reserved a testing day (I believe they are all in the month of September). The application form is still unavailable, but I am assuming the deadline for Spring is still OCT 1st.

Does anybody know what type of Kaplan exam they are administering? (TEAS, NET, RNEE??)

Lily-

I'm pretty sure the exam is actually called The Kaplan Nursing Entrance exam. I found it a little confusing, though. I bought the guide and saw where it lists all these other nursing exams. Kaplan's guide is to help for all these entrance exams. Why they don't make a guide soley for their own entrance exam is strange, but hopefully the guide has similar questions! And from my own research, I believe the exam is 91 questions covering reading, math, writing and science.

The advisor for NAU Tucson is extremely helpful. I will be attending an information session this Thursday. I will let you know if I find out any more information. I'm really hoping they get the application form up soon!

Thank you! I have already been to an information session but it was before they changed everything. Please let me know what you find out! I appreciate it =D

So, I went to the information session. There is still no great information on the Kaplan exam; however, she did say that students applying from the Flagstaff area would be the first to take the exam (before we do). This is great, because she said she would be able to tell us their average scores. As for the application, she said it may be up in a week.

I also asked for last Fall and Springs application counts. This past Fall had 150 and Spring had 96 (So nervous! Only 20 get in).

We just need that application! She said it would have more detailed info on the exam.
