May 2011 NAU accelerated nursing program hopefuls!

U.S.A. Arizona

Published

I'm finishing up some prerequisites and taking the HESI test on Tuesday for the January deadline. I'm a bit nervous! I wanted to see if there are any other accelerated program hopefuls applying for NAU this spring!?

Also, for the HESI, I heard that there is a&p, chem, bio, math, NO physics, but is there a grammar and a reading section?

Good luck to all in the application process!

Mzungu, where in GA are you coming from? I moved from Atlanta to Phoenix almost two years ago. I can tell you from Atlanta to Phoenix, the cost of living is not very different. It may be though if you are coming from a smaller city in GA.

For others that do not live in Flagstaff, what are people thinking to do in terms of housing? I currently live in Phoenix with my husband and will have to relocate by myself to Flag for a year so I am looking at housing options. Everyone seems to like the University Heights area. For those in Flag, are there many apartment complexes there?

We're coming from Rome, GA. We were in Atlanta for 4 years, then came up to Rome 3 years ago.

To put things in perspective, we've got 2 bedrooms, 1 bath, small but conveniently located - and we pay $480! We were paying about $650 for 1br in Gwinnett Co. before.

Housing in FLG is a little tricky. I live in Phoenix and there is far more competition down here for tenants and therefore better deals. I think Flagstaff is a bit more expensive in terms of cost of living. Most of the apartments around the university are, of course, at a premium. But, given the high altitude and probability of difficult weather in the winter, I'd opt to stay closer to NAU if at all possible. Unless, of course, you are a seasoned winter driver. As a desert dweller, driving on snow and ice terrifies me!!

I lived in a nice apartment complex in University Heights when I was studying for my first degree there, but I believe it has since turned condo. I would check out Craigslist to start. I'm sure the Flag residents on this thread will have some suggestions!!

I don't know what everyone is thinking, and Im getting way ahead of myself since mail has yet to come today and I STILL don't know if I'm accepted, BUT if I am, I wouldn't mind maybe trying to live with another ABSN student...I can't afford my own place, but I don't want to get stuck with strangers who are loud and partiers, ya know? Just a thought. Oh and if I end up living with a classmate, I'm a well seasoned winter driver, so that's a bonus if carpooling is involved :)

#4 on the waiting list. More waiting for me. I'm kinda over it.

RunMT, what??? You had great stats though!!! I don't understand. Don't give up!!! I was provisionally accepted so long as I complete my IPs. Keep your head up - you never know what can happen in the next few months!!!

Congrats to everyone. I'm applying to the traditional program in Tucson program. Took the Hesi today. Now I just have to deliver the application. Best wishes.

I got my acceptance packet today!

RunMT I'm so surprised you weren't accepted right away....our stats were practically identical. Don't give up though, number 4 is a good position!!!! And I'm coming from out of state and will need a roomate:)

Don't give up Run... I graduated the ABSN program in December and I think that out of my whole class of 30, 14 or so of my classmates were alternates. Good luck, you still have a very good chance!

Thanks for the encouragement guys, I kinda needed it. I totally jinxed myself with the previous post, so it's like, half my fault, haha. Wait list is better than no list, but for now I'm diving straight into plan B. Which may or may not come to fruition in the next 2 and a half weeks (I know my admission status for sure after march 11th apparently), sooooooooo, wait wait wait. Sigh. Let countdown number TWO begin!

And really, congrats to all that have made it!!

Wow Run . . . I can't believe you got wait listed. Your scores & gpa were great. They must have had a number of applicants with all the prerecs complete. I've heard that they have gone pretty far down the wait list in years past. Fingers crossed for you.

My wait for the traditional program is just beginning. I have a strong gpa and Hesi and all prerecs done but your situation gives me pause:confused: I've heard the traditional program isn't as competitive as the accelerated but I'm wondering if that just applies to Flag and not Tucson. 20 spots shouldn't be hard to fill down here I wouldn't think.

Hang in there . . .

RunMT, keep the faith! Don't give up hope - I hope you hear good news in March.

I would love to talk to others who will be attending the program!
