Learning Spanish a plus for nursing?

Hi everyone!

I am going back to school for nursing and if accepted into the program will start in Jan 2014. I am curious if learning Spanish will be a plus for working as a nurse? Does anyone have any suggestions as to what programs to use? Or how to go about starting?

I live in the Phoenix area!

Positively! The Hispanic population is growing and many have poor English skills. Also, when working with patients and families, it is nice to be sure they understand what they are being told in their "home" language.

I'm in the same boat. I work as a CNA and am waiting to start nursing school. I want to learn Spanish because I definitely have seen the need for it but I don't know where to start. I have taken most of the classes at the community college but still haven't actually learned it. I don't know what else I could do to learn it other than something like Rosetta. Also I know Glendale Community college offers a Spanish class specifically for healthcare workers that I might take next.

It would be very beneficial! I have taken 3 semesters of Spanish at MCC because I know it will benefit me as a nurse!
