giving up....

I have decided not to continue pursuing a nursing career. School has worn me out and the time it is taking me to get there. It's not that Im impatient, we just need a second income like, yesterday and I don't think I will be happy working as an LPN. I think if i was at a different place in my life where my kids were older and my husbands job didn't take a downturn(mortgage) things may be different. Maybe down the road if my current plan doesnt work out(although I feel very settled about it)......You all have been helpful and great along the way though. I really enjoyed this board when I needed advice info, or just venting space! Thanks, and good luck to all of you in your nursing endeavors!!

I'm sorry to hear that....Good luck in whatever you do!

Nursing will always be here waiting for you when the time is right.

Sorry to see you go. I totally understand how you feel but I guess I feel like I haven't reached the end of my rope just yet. I hope everything works out for you and I appreciate you taking the time out to answer my PMs. GOOD LUCK!

Just wanted to add my best wishes. I quit nursing school the first time around too. Then...12 years later, went back and finished. I wish you the best with your decision.

I'm sorry it didn't work out for you. I know I didn't think I'd make it but I'll graduate in May. It has been very hard. I work 40-50 hours a week graveyard and my husband works 60/week graveyard. You have to look out for you and find what works. I'll be 36 when I walk in May but will finish with my BSN and BA in Psych. My college "career" almost broke us financially (private university tuition but 2 year wait list @ public univ) so I know how you feel. Best of luck and keep your chin up.

It's possible I may continue where I left off down the road when my kids are older and our finances are more stable. I currently work as a feelance makeup artist and I am going to pursue my cosmetology license. I may not make as much as a nurse the first year Im out of school but after a couple of years I may be in the $50K range. I know Im capable and I will try and build a clientel quickly, I can also be my own boss eventually and that will work well with my kids schedules as well. Between the time nursing school takes and working 12 hour shifts, it's just not going to work for me at this point. I do love the idea of helping people and being a nurse, it's getting there that is the tricky part.....

I am sorry to hear that, but, you have to do what you have to do.

Wish you the best.

I am glad you have figured out what is right for you at this time in your life and wish you peace with your decision.

A freelance makeup artist and an RN, huh? Now those are two really different careers! :) Nursing school will always be around if you do change your mind one day. Happy Holidays!;)

The make-up job was a fluke but I love it. That's what has given me the idea of beauty school. I do really feel nursing provides so much more though. Stability, income, making a difference......but I just don't know if I can handle an R.N program and run a household with 3 kids. Definately the route I was planning at the community colleges isnt an option as it's just too long. I just don't know that I can make it through one of these private school programs either. Yes, it'd be quicker, but I know it would be very intense. Not sure I can swing that kind of pressure at this point in my life. I do NOT feel settled about giving up, I just cannot see the light at the end of tunnel for me and becoming a nurse. Maybe something will change in the next few months where I can...
