Did anybody to go to a Maricopa Community College?

Hey everybody! I was wondering if any have you got your RN thru a Maricopa Community College? I am doing my pre reqs right now but wanted to get an idea of how long it would be from the time I get in the program to the time I can work as a LPN and then actually be a RN. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

A Maricopa community college? I am in school now and it took me only two semesters to get in, so less than 1 year after applying. If that is what you want to know......???:wink2:

I go to Glendale and about to start block 4 in a couple of weeks. The nursing program is broken up into blocks which are semesters. After block 1 and block 2 you can take the NCLEX for LPN. After block 3 and block 4 you can take the NCLEX for RN. Good luck :)

Just curious...Is it a competitive process (for admissions) or is it first-come first served (after meeting the minimum requirements)?

So you are already working as a LPN?? Where did you do your clinical at for you LPN and did you take your corequisits before being enrolled??

No, I have never worked as an LPN. I just got the liscence and continued school. At Maricopa Skill Center I did clinicals at Arrowhead, the VA, and County. Yeah, I had all of my coreqs before starting block 3 at Glendale except for a Humanities course that I am taking right now in summer school at RIo. I would strongly urge anyone to have all there coreqs before starting block 3 because it is TOUGH! I did not have time to work while in the full time program at Glendale. Just give a yell if you have anymore Qs. :)

So is it possible to work full time for blocks 1 & 2 and then full time as an LPN for block 3 & 4?? I mean I dont know how my boyfriend and I are going to get through school without working. It isn't possible.

I would say it would be extremely difficult to work fulltime and go to nursing school full time. Not impossible, but I couldn't do it - I felt I couldn't even work part time. But hey, I just turned 50......maybe you have lots more energy than me. I have seen people do it for block 1 and block 2. I have seen ONE person do it for block 3 and it nearly killed her. Maybe you can get a loan or grant. I would say if you have kids, a fulltime job, and fulltime nursing school that is definitely not doable unless you are the type of person that can function on two hours sleep a night. Wish I had better news.

PS - MCCD states to plan 60 hours a week between class and studying and they are not lying. At Glendale many things you would expect to do during class time happens on your own time. For example, lab practice, test taking, and even film watching. Lecture is exactly that!

PPS - Check into RIo Salado online nursing program. If you had to work during school that would be the way to go. The clinical requirements are the same but you would be freed up for that lecture time. I am sorry I didn't choose Rio because I have to self study so much besides lecture I feel I could do a better job on complete self study at Rio!
