If I calculated it right the pre-reqs for the MCC nursing program is 18 credits and at $71 per credit hour that's $1278..... and.... god knows how much text books are.. (anyone know?)..

It might sound silly.. .. is it possible to get financial aide for this?

Of course you can! You can apply through FAFSA.gov.....if you qualify for pell, your tuition will be covered and usually books too. If not, you can take out small loans each semester to cover the costs. Call one of the local community colleges and ask to spaek to financial aid or you can PM me and I will tell you how to go about it all. I used to work for the financial aid department for a large technical college here in the valley.

Thanks!! I wasn't sure... I thought maybe the actual nursing program would be covered but not sure if the other classes would be. I need to get my stuff together to apply for FAFSA then!

You can get financial aid for any college courses (although I think some might not be approved if you are just taking a PE course to get full units to get full benefits) but you do have to be careful because there is a cap and you could run out, that happened to a friend and she has to pay for her last two years of nursing school with loans (she took a lot of classes and never completed them, changed majors ect..)

You can take classes through Rio Salado too, and they transfer to any of the MCCD schools and most universities. You can even still get into Spring 2008 semester classes now...the Spring semester classes start every Monday through May 12. Then, the Summer I semester starts. Once you complete your FAFSA online, the school can begin processing it...Rio will allow you to begin your classes, and even get your books with a financial aid voucher at their bookstore, before your financial aid actually comes in...once they know you will get it, they are willing to have you start as they will take your tuition and book payments out of it when it comes in, and they send a check for the leftover directly to you.

You can really kick out your prereqs quickly using Rio...the online course format is my favorite. A tip...stagger your start dates (I recommend by two weeks) so you are not taking all your midterms and finals at the same time...helps to keep your grades/GPA up.

Good luck! :D

Great information, thanks. For some reason I completely forgot about Rio Salado.. I had myself nearly signing up for classes at Mesa......

Online works much better for me!
