Banner Good Sam?

U.S.A. Arizona

Published

Hi, I've been a nurse for 18 months on a busy medical/tele unit. I currently live in Colorado. I absolutely love the hospital I'm at, but I don't like Colorado! I've lived in Colorado my whole life, hate the winters, and want to experience a new place (I've visited AZ many times and fell in love with it right away!). Anyway I went online to the Bannerhealth website, applied for a position...telephone interview, etc. Well I have now been offered a job at Banner Good Sam in their ED. I would love any feedback and really appreciate it. It is going to be quite a move, and with three kids I want to know this is the right move. Of course any hospital is going to make their hospital out to be the best. I would greaty appreciate any feedback on this hospital! Thanks!!!!!

I have done a few clinicals there in the ER and I must say it's one of my favorite places to go. It's extremely busy but everyone there is VERY helpful to newbies/students. The setup is awesome and Good Sam has a great reputation.

Congrats! I would LOVE to work there if I didn't live so far away!

I agree with the previous poster. Banner Good Sam has a good reputation around the valley. VERY busy hospital around the downtown Phx area. Only thing is, I wouldn't suggest living in that immediate area.

Good luck to you!

I live in the immediate area and find it quite nice; as with all places you must choose wisely. There are TONS of historic, well maintained areas (even million dollar homes)around that hospital intermingled with a handful of not so respectable areas. You'll find that most people who are afraid of this area are only perpetuating what other people have told them.

Eh, wasn't the case for me. I've grown up in the valley and know all too well (from other peoples' accounts as well as my own experiences) about the areas in and around Phx.

True though, like with any area, do your research and be well informed before making a decision :)

I just moved to Gilbert last summer from Montrose, CO. I love it. I only know that Banner Good Sam has a very good reputation and I see alot of good posts about them. Just wanted to wish you luck with the move. Everything about Az is better. Good Luck.

Thank you so much for your input! It's nice to hear the "other side"

(nurses views) of specific hospitals!!

Didn't live downtown, no. But when I used to go into work and hear gunshots and all the other stuff that went on .... no thanks.

To each their own.

Other stuff like what? Are you basing the "gunshots" on what you think you heard or what you saw? Such broad phrases have given the downtown area a poor reputation; a reputation that in my experience and of my neighbors', has not born true. I'm not trying to be a jerk about this, but this kind of stereotype is exactly what i was talking about.

I worked in the area .... I didn't just hear what I *thought* were gunshots. They were gunshots. There are a dozen gangs that live in and around the area ...... if you're not in the gangs then you're probably ok, unless you're caught in their gunfire, which I have seen cases of that happen.

This is just my opinion of why I wouldn't want to live there. If you live there and you like it, then it shouldn't matter what other people say about it. There are people that don't like where I live, but who cares? I like it and have no problem with it. I'm sorry if you feel like I'm stereotyping the area, but it's just my opinion based on experience.

Hi,

Had to add my :twocents: as well. I live with in 5 miles of the hospital and work downtown while I attend school. I would be researching the area you move to carefully, while there are good and bad, no matter which city you choose. Look up the zip code on azcentral.com for crime, it is an eye opener. Downtown does have some really nice areas as bad. Yep I've heard the gun shots, and see the aftermath, I'm also going home between 130a-6a through the heart of it. Keep in mind also that a few blocks are great and move over and viola, you run into a bad area. This is the case for any big city. I have no doubt you'll find an area you like that's not all that far from the hospital, there are many to chose from.

Good Luck, welcome to Arizona!
