ASU Nursing Program Spring 2011 hopefuls

U.S.A. Arizona

Hi,

I am thinking of applying for Spring 2011. I have just found out that the lowest TEAS score for ASU was about 79% with average of 87%. I am worried. I have a GPA of 4.0. But last time I took the TEAS for Fall (w/o studying!!), I got 75.3%. I still did not start preparation as the kids have summer break and I am busy with them. But, I was wondering if someone has already applied... Can anyone also suggest how they are preparing for the TEAS? Let's post our GPAs and TEAS score to know where we stand... It might also work as encouragement for some of us.:)

I'm on the ASU Nursing School Spring 2011 Alternate List. I have a 5.558 advancement score. That's based on a 3.744 grade point average and a 90.7 TEAS score. That grade point should go to 4.0 after this semester, and I should get in with no problem in May 2011 with a 5.814 advancement score.....but I'd rather do the Traditional program now and graduate later with my summers off, rather than do the Accelerated program in May and graduate sooner, but not have my summers off. Would have REALLY liked to have done the new 12-month Second Degree program, but The Powers That Be ("TPTB") screwed us on that one. TPTB said I have a good enough TEAS score and shouldn't have to take it again....and like an idiot, I believe them. Anyone know any different?

I see where there are at least 3 Alternates who have listed their scores. I talked to someone today who just got a call from the school and got moved off the Alternate List to the Admitted List. There still may be hope for some of us! Regardless, I plan to stand up at the all-hands meeting on DEC 8 and ask all the Alternates to meet in a group after the meeting....Hell, I'll probably buy 'em a beer at lunch after the meeting if they're old enough.....but between the meeting and this website, we should be able to bypass TPTB and figure out the Alternate List composition and ranking by ourselves. POWER TO THE PEOPLE! DON'T TRUST ANYONE UNDER 30! ;-)

.....in case you haven't already guessed, I'm the short old fat guy that seems to wear the same clothes all the time and tends to ask the professors questions that annoy lots of people..... ;-)

5.565 Tgirl

5.558 MJMcWhirter

There are supposed to be 10 Alternates. Six more need to report in.....tell your Alternate List friends!

hey there mjmcwhirter! glad to see another alternate on this posting :) i will most definitely be attending the meeting on december 8th and hope that all the alternates can meet after the meeting as well. i still have not spoken with anyone else on the alternate list but i'm still keeping my fingers crossed that the others find this posting.

take care everyone!

Thanks Rach! By the way, I should have said "Don't trust anyone OVER 30", instead of "under". What can I say?....the 60's were a LONG time ago!

I hope you all get in! I hear that usually everyone on the alternative list gets in. It happened to my friend, so keep hoping! :) This is a bit off topic, but I am curious. mjmcwhirter, how did you get such a high TEAS test score? I am taking it in the next few months, and I would love to pick your brain about it. I am a bit nervous for it...

The semester I got in (Fall 07) I believe all the alternates were placed. Some even as late as the week before the semester started. It's stressful being in that limbo, but keep your fingers crossed and be prepared for either outcome. Family emergencies, personal decisions about schooling, etc always happen.

Good luck :)

InspiredRN10: The TEAS is an appitude test that depends on info you've experienced or picked up on in life, and you really shouldn't be able to study for it, but it helps to get a "feel" for the test. I took it "blind", and almost forgot to take it in August. If I did it again, I'd buy the book. I've got the book now, as I'm thinking of taking the TEAS again, just to see how I do when I actually "study" for it. If you want to borrow the book, call me (319-610-6683) or see me in class. My schedule: HCR 210 T-Th 1030, HCR 220 M-W 1400, HCR 230 T 1640, HCR 240 M-W 1700, NCR 241 T-Th 1200.

For General Consumption: I haven't gotten any bites in class from any other Alternates, but I'll keep trying. Again, the idea is NOT to figure out who you are, but to figure out our respective rankings on the Alternate List. Knowing if you are #1 ("I'm in, I'm in!") or #10 ("No way this semester") on the List makes a difference. If you're not afraid to identify yourself, see me in class. If you are, sound off on this website. Everyone else, tell your Alternate List friends to check things out on this website and chime in!

hi there inspiredrn10 !

i thought i would lend some advice to you about the teas also since i scored close to mjmcwhirter . i recieved a score of 89 and would recommendd using the teas workbook paired with mcgraw hill's nursing entrance exam workbook. here's a link to see what the actual book looks like: http://www.amazon.com/mcgraw-hills-nursing-school-entrance-exams/dp/0071599371

myself, and 2 best friends both used these work books and scored within the range of 89-93. hope this helps!

Even though I got in, I really wish they had pulled through with the 90 person interview. We need helpful, supportive RN's out there, and it seems like all the alternates posting on here are just that. Good luck getting in guys, and if not, I bet you will do fine for the summer since there are 100 spots.

:o Hello everyone, I received an alternate list letter for Fall 2010 admissions, I was not given a cutoff score. I also have applied again on October 1 2010 for Spring 2011 but I have not received any letter or email yet informing of anything. Im not sure what to do I was advised to take A/P 1 over because I made a C in it previously, and so Im waiting to take my finals for that. Looks like I probably will get a C again because I had some financial, family and transportation issues this semester, but when I met with my advisor in October, she said she was pulling for me and was going to place my application in the "right stack this time" not sure if that meant anything but im still hopeful.:)

dutchessca you should really call CONHI student services since it seems everyone else has already gotten their letter for Spring '11. Also you said you got a C in A/P 1 what about A/P 2, Micro, and chem? you only have to use 3 of the 4 sciences in your select GPA. or at least thats how it was when i applied. Good luck to you!

I got a B in A/P 2 and micro a C, my teas exam a 80%

There are 100 spots for the summer?! Say whaaat? That is a LOT of spots! ASU hasn't taken on 100 people in one cohort in like 2 years!

dutchessca: I would most definitely call Student Services, something is fishy with that. You should have gotten your letter by now, for sure!
