Anyone enrolled at GCU's SHC?

U.S.A. Arizona

Is anyone here currently enrolled in GCU's night/weekend option at Scottsdale Healthcare? If so, can you please give me an idea of what to expect?

Thanks!

What are the rules for missing and making up class times and clinicals? I recently found out I am going to be dealing with some health "issues" during the first semester so I am hopeful that nothing will cause me to miss anything, but I am just curious to know the options for such events. Thanks!

Scrubs- Are worn at the clinical setting and on lab days at school. They were every Wed in block one and now they are like once a month.

Missing clinicals- Not permitted!! I am sure if it an emergency they can work something out but no one in my class has missed one because it is that frowned upon. It can seriously jeopardize your ability to pass the class.

SHC cohort- If you can get into this cohort I would go for it. We have lost one person because of grades the other cohorts have lost many more than that.

Of course any program is what you make of it. Every one has it flaws and you have to have a positive attitude and the ability to be flexible. There are not always going to be professors or instructors that have your best interest in mind but you have to remember your overall goal and fight to make it.

Has everyone finished the immunization requirements? Im almost done. But I have a question, last year I got the 2 step TB skin test, and it expires this month. So can I just do the one TB skin test rather than two? I have the documentation from last year, I just wanted to finish everything this week! And schedule the appt to turn everything in!

Hi there. From what I understand, you need a TB skin test from within the last year and another one within the past 3 years unless you are doing a 2-step TB skin test. I have one that I did at work last October then another one I did over a year ago... so that's what I am hoping to turn in. I have all my immunization and all the tither results but I am still waiting for the DPS fingerprint card which can take some time. That's the only thing I'm waiting on. I can't seem to catch anyone at GCU to schedule an appointment though. Have you all been able to schedule your 15 min. appt?

No!!! I have been trying to get a hold of someone to make the appt and ask some questions just to make sure and I haven't reached anyone. Well I did the two step exactly 1 year ago, so maybe the 1 test would work? Hopefully! I just want to be registered!

Does anyone know how the GPA scholarship works? Is it based on the prereq GPA or the cumulative GPA? What are the amounts? What are the GPA requirements?

Thanks in advance!

I believe Lizzyru is correct. If you can show youve had tb for multiple years than your okay.

I would call your academic advisor to set up the appt with the deans assistant. I set mine last week and she had a lot of appt times available. I met with her and unfortunately my physical was done in january so it was too old. So I got one done at a cvs minute clinic. And called ahead of time to see if I could swing by to drop off physical sheet. She said I could fax but I had to go down there anyways to the bookstore.

then she emailed me my updated progress sheet and now my status is ready to register as soon as they come out with falls schedule!

Can't wait for orientation!

Well I have an appointment on Monday to see if I have everything they need, so I can be cleared. Fingers crossed! I cannot wait until we get schedules!

Johnnyarei, I got your email and I responded but I don't think I did it through this website, so I am not sure if you ever got it! But to answer your question, the application overall at GCU went really smooth. My counselor seemed to handle most of the required paperwork and I just turned in my transcripts and passed the TEAS! I just graduated from ASU so they did consider me to be a second degree bachelor student, which I have heard is helpful in the selection for the program, but plenty of people without previous degrees have made it in just fine. I was in the 80's on the TEAS and a 3.5 gpa. There is a scholarship based on pre reqs classes. 3.25 is 1500 per semester, 3.5 is 2500 per semester, and 3.7 is 3500 per semester. So it does help! I am in the AT Still Day program. So I know our class times are a bit different than the night/weekend program at Scottsdale, like 8 to 11 or 8 to 2, three times a week, plus a clinical. But I think if you apply to either campus you have a pretty good shot! The AT Still campus took 25 applicants, and I am sure that is similar to Scottsdale. Good luck! I haven't started yet but I have heard lots of good things, so I am excited!

I had my meeting to go through my immunization/CPR/fingerprint card last week. I asked how many are in the SHC program and I was told there are 25 of us there. There is a fall '11 start orientation scheduled (I can't remember when..) then there will also be a program specific orientation before we begin so we can meet our classmates.

I have an appt to meet with the academic counselor and financial counselor this Friday. Hopefully after that, I am good to register. :)

Good luck to you all!
