  1. I applied as well for the Critical Care Residency and I have an interview in a week. YAY!! I can't wait. Has anyone else made it to the interview stage??
  2. Scrubs- Are worn at the clinical setting and on lab days at school. They were every Wed in block one and now they are like once a month. Missing clinicals- Not permitted!! I am sure if it an emergency they can work something out but no one in my class has missed one because it is that frowned upon. It can seriously jeopardize your ability to pass the class. SHC cohort- If you can get into this cohort I would go for it. We have lost one person because of grades the other cohorts have lost many more than that. Of course any program is what you make of it. Every one has it flaws and you have to have a positive attitude and the ability to be flexible. There are not always going to be professors or instructors that have your best interest in mind but you have to remember your overall goal and fight to make it.
  3. Clinicals are 8 hours in block one then after that 12 hours. They always begin at 6:30am so u can get report with your nurse.
  4. Our first block was Tuesday-Thursday 5-830 or 930 (my mind is gone). Clinicals during the 1st block were only on Saturdays at Shea or Osborne. The 2nd block we have classes Mon, Tues and clinicals friday or saturday. We were able to sign up for the day we wanted to attend clinicals. I chose Mayo because word on the street is, any experience at Mayo gives you an inch above the others. The clinical experience and teaching by the nurses and Mayo faculty is above par and unmatched by any other hospital I have been to. Next block I have heard that our class days will stay the same but clinicals will be on WED. The one thing that you will learn at GCU is beeee flexible. Nothing is ever as your advisor says. Things are constantly changing. Did u get in yet or are you applying? If you have not gotten in yet and just thinking about applying I reccomend it. I work at Shea and I see many nursing students there and many of them are unhappy with their program or have lost many students due to schoolwork. This program has it's ups and downs but I am learning a lot and I feel that everyone (as in teachers and faculty) want all of us to succeed.
  5. Hey guys. Congrats to those that have made it into the program. I am currently in the night and weekend program at the SHC Shea Campus. We are rounding up towards the end of our 2nd out of 5 blocks. The program has been great. We attend class Monday and Tuesday and some Wednesdays then clinicals on Saturdays (Mayo Clinic). Some of my class has clinicals on Fridays (SHC shea). We began with 24 people in our class and all of us are extremely close and have supported one another throughout. I have heard that the other campuses do not share the same comrodery. The proffesor there is ---- and probably the best instructor at GCU. He really wants the students to succeed. He teaches block 1 and 2 so those of you that will be beginning the program are extremely lucky. I have been able to hold down 2 part time jobs and I do some volunteer work once a week. It is hard yet doable. Let me know if anyone has some specific questions because I utilized this website often while pursuing GCU. Good luck!!!!
  6. Hey all, Congrats to those who have gotten into the program. I am rounding up on my last week of block 1 at GCU Scottsdale campus. I can't express in words how great the program has been and how supportive the teachers and other students have been. If you are simply just thinking about attending GCU take a real good look into what this school can offer you. I recommend doing your best to get into this school I LOVE IT!!
  7. They have many campuses now, Tuscon, Mesa, Scottsdale and Glendale. So I think getting in will be easier
  8. no the program is 20 months
  9. The admissions process was pretty easy. They just want your cumulative grades and make sure you have all pre-req's done. I don't know how everyone else's gpa was. Mine is 3.7 overall and 3.5 in pre req's. This year they had an extra 2 night fast track programs. 1 in Scottsdale the other in Mesa along with the day program in Glendale. There is also another program in Tuscon, so plenty of options. I think a lot of people got in this year because of all the locations
  10. GCU is the best private school. I met a nurse that works at a local hospital and she told me the students that come from GCU are well rounded and "know their stuff".
