  1. GCUJen - I haven't heard about the mentor program. How do I get info on that? Yeah the reading is brutal!! I'm gonna to get started this weekend for sure. I was gonna ask you about the ATI too. Where do we get those from, SMJC or the bookstore, or is it all online? This is the part I felt was a little unorganized. 'You want us to read all this before we start but you can't tell me what book to buy??' Personally I can't afford to buy a bunch of books that I don't need. I did buy the Health Assessment book (2007 edition) off Amazon for $30, says its like new. Yes I have to pick them up in Tempe but that's okay because I work all over the place and drive by there quite a bit. I bought the Landau FootWearx Comfort show. They are heaven to wear. I might buy a black pair to wear for my work now LOL. Yes shoes are very important as a nurse. I already have a bad back so I have to be extra concerned!! What part of town do you live in? I am way out west almost to Wickenburg. Same to you, if you want to talk or have ideas let me know!!
  2. No worries about the cpr!! I am SJMC, you also right? Oh my, all I can say is I'm a little overwhelmed with it all. I'm sure once I get thru the first fews weeks I will feel much better about the whole thing (I hope). I HATE the schedule!!! It is so all over the place & seems a little unorganized in my opinion. I wonder how the main campus schedule is? It is definately going to be difficult because I HAVE to work full time. Thankfully, my job is pretty flexible and I don't report in or out at any particular time and a lot of my work can be done from home or from a laptop. I know being in the hospital will better prepare me for what's it's really gonna be like but I feel like we are displaced having to move around to so many classrooms. What are your feelings? As far as the scrubs, I went down and ordered 2 tops today and bought my pants at Scrubs and Beyond. They are a little cheaper there. If you are not close to Tempe to go size, they are 'Landau' brand so you could try them on at any scrub shop, then order online. He said my tops would be back late tomorrow or early Monday from getting embroidered. Are you gonna wear your scrubs to all class or just when necessary? Inspired I will post the schedule later. Basically though it is 4 days, morning & afternoon, 4 - 8 hours a day with some split shifts, no Wednesday classes right now. Good luck on your TEAS....you will do fine so don't stress it!!
  3. Hi Aspiringnurse55! I applied for the summer start in Jan 2011. If you apply in Sept, you will be up for the start in Jan 2012. As far as the scholarship, when you are accepted the advisor will tell you if you will be getting one, they send a form with the acceptance letter that you have to sign and send back. Yeah it def helps. I'm not looking forward to the loans for sure. I haven't really seen/heard any negative reviews about GCU except for financial aid which I am just getting ready to deal with. I might have a different opinion for you after that. After hearing how long people were waiting to get into MCCNP I put all my eggs in the GCU basket. I am happy with my decision. And since I'm not getting any younger either (just turned 33), I figured it was my best choice!!! Best of luck to you and I will keep you posted on how things go!!!
  4. The scholarships cover $3500 with a 3.75 gpa, $2500 with a 3.5 gpa, and $1500 for I think a 3.25 gpa. Mine is 3.6something. I will have to maintain a 3.25 to receive this every semester. Don't be nervous on the TEAS. I freaked myself out and stressed for months. I did fine and I have been out of school for 12 years. Math and reading are the only scores they look at. You'll do fine!!
  5. Hi inspired RN10!! Yeah I literally got on the phone the second that they were open and just waited & waited to get reg. for that class. I really enjoyed the class and feel I learned a lot. I got a scholarship from GCU for my grades as long as keep a certain gpa throughout school. Otherwise I don't qualify for any grants so it'll be loans for me....uggghhh!!! Don't worry you'll get in, keep that positive attitude!!
  6. Hi Lauren! It was my understanding that if you were not able to get into one of the PVCC classes that you would then have to go through GCU. The classes at PVCC are hard to come by. I was on the phone the morning of Spring registration (for like an hour) and was one of the last of 20 students to get into the online course for COM270. I know there are several of the other students in our cohort that took the class at PVCC as well. I haven't taken any classes at GCU either. They are a rather expensive route when you can go to community college in my opinion. Congrats on getting in by the way!! Can't wait to meet everyone at orientation!!
  7. Love this site! Thanks for recommending it!!!
  8. Thanks everyone!! I appreciate the responses! Gonna search on ebay and see what Saunders I can find. Thanks again!
  9. GCUJen - Have you taken your cpr course? If so, where did you take it?
  10. What is the title/author of the best NCLEX-RN book to buy? There are sooo many on the market, which offers the most comprehensive review? Thanks.....
  11. A raspberry Littmann Classic II :heartbeat
  12. We haven't gotten the schedule yet, but when they put it out, I'll let you know what it looks like. Orientation is Apr 20, I hope they put it out sooner and don't wait until then!!
  13. Wow...sorry for the delay in response!! I didn't get a notification on your post....Anyway, St Joe's is a day program. The Jan 2011 start had a night/wknd option at SHC and somewhere in Mesa. Not sure what other night options they will offer.
  14. InspiredRN - Here are my TEAS V scores: Math - 80 and Reading - 76.2. Not great but they got me through!! :)
  15. InspiredRN - Good luck to you for Fall first off! I'm sure you'll do just fine. I do not have a bachelors degree. My gpa is a little over 3.5. I'm hoping my COM270 grade will boost it to a 3.7. I don't remember what my TEAS scores were. I will look those up later today and post them for you. Hang in there and don't stress yourself out!!! GCUJen - Congrats to you!!! Woohoo I'm so excited and scared and nervous all at the same time. Do you know how many are in our class? Maybe we'll get some others on here to reply. Are you taking your COM270 now? I am in the PVCC online course and I have to say I'm really liking the class. I am sure we will be meeting pretty soon for orientation. May will be here before we know it!!
