Hi, I've been a nurse for 14 years,Associate Degree. Worked Pediatrics in a hospital for 9 years now have worked in an office setting with 3 pediatricians for 5 years. I make 15.30 per hour. In the 5 years I have been there my pay has increased by about 1.25 per hour. We have changed owners 3 times in 5 years. With our most recent new owners we were put back to new employees as if we just started. I am so frustrated with nursing right now. I see myself going nowhere fast and my income is certainly going nowhere. Sorry to be draging on here just needed to vent my frustration with the whole thing!

Are the docs new as well as the "owners"? If the docs are the same, I'd be a tad bit upset with them, not nursing. Seems as if they could've gone to bat for you. My old employer, for whom I still do per diem, changed management 3 times. (not her doing-the facility. long story)

I kept my salary, which at that time was $17.26 / hour. I have a MSN, certification and 24 years. Go figure.

I was offered an office position in southern NH. pay to be 16.00hr. I could not take the cut in pay plus loosing my diff, although I would have liked the hours. Good Luck.

I have been an Rn for 32 yrs. More than half of this time I have been in top management. After 2 yrs of not working, (I downshifted due to increasing pressure to do more with less.. and bottem line responsibility that required 60 hr work wks. I took a fun job 1 day/wk at a pediatric physician practice in Cincinnati. I was hired @$16/hr which seems better than some of my friends who are working $12-13/hr! I have been retrained for patient care (at the physician's expense) and get CEU's from the local Children's Hospital. Certainly the salary is less than hospital staff nursing, but the hrs are wonderful--just a 10 hr day and 4 hrs one Saturday/month.

I work in a small rural practice in Tx. We have 2 FP and 3 Interal Medicine. There are 2 MA's, 2 LVN's, and 2 RN's. One of the LVN's is payed $13.00/ hr, while us two RN's make $15/hr. We are coming up on evaluation time, and I need to know if this pay is avg. The other RN and I believe that the practice is getting us cheap. We both came from hospital settings (avg. 8 years for each of us) and did not know what to ask for hourly wise in pay. Avg pay difference between RN and LVN is $3.50 - $4.00/hr.

Please help us figure out if we need to ask for a pay raise this year, especially in light of the fact no raises were given last year.

I'm an LPN with 2yrs exp. working in an out-pt ambulatory setting (Adult Internal med/ specialties) in a major hosp. northern N.J. and Im making close to $15.00/hr. The RN's (Diploma nurses) all with more than 10yrs of exp. are averaging anywhere from $23 and up. $3.00 more an hr if they're med- surge certified. We do pretty much what you do in a private practice.Triage, pt assessment, VS, vaccine. inj. pt.teaching, wound dressing, EKG, phelbotomy, charting, refills, etc. etc. And the hours are great. 8am-4:30pm mon-fri. No weekends. You can't beat that. :-) I hope this info. is helpful to you.

" I just recently interviewed for a position in a physician's office.I live in rural Pa...I was told that the pay scale in that office is from $9 to $12-12 being the highest pay offered to the most experienced.Also RN and LPN salaries are the same as they have the same duties in the office.This has been the trend around here-and I think the root of this is sexism...why do we put up with this? Nurses in offices work very hard....New LPN grads are making 14 to 15 to start in some facilities around here...

I read a lot of these discussion boards as part of my job, I have seen many postings regarding nursing wages. Many of us do not have knowledge of the basic ranges etc and the information is hard to find. I have found a site, by a nurse I believe, that may help: pohly.com/salary.shtml. Also in searching the databases for CDC (Centers for Disease Control) I found references to how to look up some of the many statistics which they keep. Maybe these will be helpful too: cdc.gov/nchs/data/nnhs-5a.pdf. GILS might be another govt database with that info in it. Hope these help- we need wage knowledge to negotiate a decent wage for ourselves!! Christina 505rn

Office pay is lower than hospital, in NY about $20 per hour.

I am an RN with 12 years of experience, primarily in pediatrics and left acute care nursing over one year ago to see what working in pediatric primary care was all about (I wanted to evaluate whether or not to pursue my MSN in a primary care area). I just recently left a job making approx $20/hr working in a 10 physician pediatric practice for a job in a smaller practice to make approx. 10-15% more per hour. I am certified as a pediatric nurse by ANCC and do not know if that makes a difference to my new employer. I love office nursing and feel that, at this point in my career, I do not want to return to the hospital setting. I am working in southern california (suburb of Los Angeles).
