How dare you make the idea of becoming an LPN sound like it's a waste of time. You think having that RN title make you a better nurse. Why should any one of us enlighten you to what we choose to do!!! What makes you think just because your an "RN" that makes you a better nurse....What nerve. How about, just wanting to be an LPN,that may be just enough for some of us. I'm curious to know where on earth are they laying off LPN's. I've yet to meet one LPN that's in need of a job. And as far as low pay... I don't think so. Out of my entire graduating class, I'm the lowest paid LPN that I know. That's because I choose to work in a hospital environment. Making 17.50-25.00 if not more an hour doesn't sound to bad to me. So get off your high horse and stop looking down on all that's in the health care business. For all you "INSECURE RN" get with it. Times a changing and its only going to make you more frustrated. So if you can't handle all the change in the medical field, it's probably time for you to look else where. You're frightend by the LPN's, EMT's, OR Techs, and even NA. Sometimes I don't know whether to laugh or to get angry by some of the comments made in this forum. But, thank goodness the majority of you RN's are level headed and have a great deal of common sense and a great respect for the medical field, that they know it takes all kinds to make this a great system. It's only that handful that makes it bad the the rest.
  2. Is there any bilingual nurses in this forum experiencing this dilema. Would appreciate any input or suggestions regarding this matter. Should translation come before nursing duties? For example: if a bilingual nurse is giving an injection or in the middle of any other nursing duties and a transltor is needed, should she have to drop her nursing duties and allow another nurse to complete her task for the sake of tranlation. Should a bilingual nurse be utilized solely for tranlation purposes when there are multiple nonenglish speaking pts on that giving day and that nurse being the only bilingual nurse day in and day out. Is this permitted in your facility? Is anyone else experiencing this problem? How do you feel about this? Where can I find information regarding my rights as a nurse vs translator? Thanks for your help in advance. Nurse in need of guidance.
  3. Well, from all this reporting on nurse shortage, I had a pt come in today to tell me he heard about the nurse shortage and how they were being paid very well but maxed out to quick. I was dumb founded and taken back by what he said especially since I'm an LPN and I know I don't make nearly as much as an RN. To think that he belived all nurses were paid vey well!! Then at school a couple of students also mentioned they heard about the shortage and wanted to know why nurses were "so mean"?? Go figure! I'm not sure what kind of message they're actually picking up from all this reporting. I hope the public can get a real good understanding of what the problem really is before they become bored with this topic and think we're just well paid selfish nurses.
  4. When we have walk-in w/o appt's and want to be seen urgently, we have one of the available nurses go up front and triage the pt and assess their need. If it's truly not urgent we give them an appointment for the following day or within that same week. And we also stress that this is not a walk-in clinic, and also stress the importance of calling before walking in.
  5. Mijourney...not to stir any trouble, but sometimes I think when "some " RN's see the RN title linked with LPN/Aide they tend to lose focus of whats being discussed. I completely understood where SUBQ was coming from. I THINK YOU MISSED THE POINT!!!!!! Don't read to much into it. No offense taken I hope.
  6. ShannonB25...Sorry your bubble was busted. But in all honesty...what everyone here is venting is pretty much what they are experincing in their particular dept. Would you rather they sugar coat it and pretend as if this situation never existed. This is why we are experincing so much promblems in the nursing field. Everyone needs to know across the globe that this problem exist. We all became nurses because we love what we do...not how we're treated. We come to this BB to gripe and it allows us to unload. We return to work the following day and give our patients the best care we can, knowing there's no relief to come. This BB allows us to see that we're not in this alone. That are feeling are true and justified. We walk around feeling guilty for the way we feel as if we're bad nurses and not team players. And in all honesty, we're just over worked and under staffed. And being totally ignored by management. So please don't confuse nursing with reality. Because we all love being nurses--just don't like where it took us. To be a great nurse may be difficult, because in your heart it's there, but time does not allow for it. So you do your best, walk away totally exhausted, sacrifice your own life and still feel like you're a rotten nurse. Despite all this.. I still love being a nurse. So this must mean something?? It's not all bad. Good luck..I'm sure you will find joy in this field.
  7. You may want to try your local hospitals or Nsg Homes..and apply for a SNA (student nsg assistant) or perhaps a PCT (pt care tech) position. The pay is higher when your a nursing student than it is for a NA. Well best of luck. Keep your hopes high. There's something out there for you.
  8. I also rcv'd a $25.00 certificate to a local supermarket. (WOW) Was I ever impressed. My husband who went to school for 6 months to be AC/mech got a $3000.00 bonus. Boy am I in the wrong field. Thank god I love what I do. Boy... do they ever have their priorities all screwed up!!!!!! Something is most definitely wrong with picture! HAPPY NEW YEARS TO EVERYONE
  9. I'm an LPN working in an hosp. out-pt setting. I give IM, SC, intradermal and I do phelebotomy. I also triage and assess new pts.
