Introductions

U.S.A. Alaska

Published

Hi everyone! I just thought I'd start the new State forums off with an introduction thread. Please feel free to reply to this thread if you wish. Otherwise, feel free to start a new topic if you wish to discuss other topics that are local or state related. Enjoy!

HI.

I just joined All Nurses. I live in Fairbanks, love it here. I'm going to Racine WI in 2 weeks to do my CPNE with Excelsior! I'm Nervous Wreck! Been an LPN for 18 years.

To Nananurse3 the are millions of fantastic things to see and do in Alaska. Plan lots of road trips to see the sites.

Nobody has posted on here in a few months but I just wanted to say hello. My husband just transfered up here last month and it's my first time in Alaska. It is so beautiful and I can't wait to start exploring. I have done nursing in TX, NC and CO as well. I am a LPN and am currently doing lots of interviews :yeah: . I start at UAA in JAN to finish up my RN. Quick question for all of you, are there any short-term (think a couple weeks during the summer/no pay-required) volunteer programs for bush nursing? I am looking to do some volunteer work in South America next summer but thought I'd ask about AK. I miss the military and the humanitarian work :redpinkhe .

Hi all AK nurses and wanna-be AK nurses!

I have been an RN for over 25 yrs and in the NICU for 20. I am currently retired, but surely would consider moving to AK for a job. DH is versatile and would do just about anything.

Our home is Louisiana, but DH is currently working on the pipeline in the state of NY. His job will be finished in less than a month.

This thread is a bit slow, but I just wanted to pop in and introduce myself and say hi!

Hi all! I'm Dawn, and after a few posts here and another general Alaskan site.....we have arrived in Anchorage. We've been here about 3 weeks and it's beautiful! You gotta like to be outdoors, regardless of how many layers you need. We just layer up and go out to walk, take pics, whatever. Waiting for enough snow to snowmachine. Somedays I forget I am up here to work:coollook:

Hi,

I'm from the great State of Oklahoma (BOOMER SOONER). Been in nursing since 95 when and I my CNA, 99 got LPN, and hopefully will get RN in May, ( if everything goes well). I will be committed for a couple of years to pay back Physician's Manpower and a few other scholastic obligations and plan to do this by working ICU. I think that experience as a unit nurse goes a long way to making one more marketable..anyway, the reason I chose this thread is b/c I am really Interested in coming to work in Alaska sometime in the future. My husband and I both would like to live up there just for the experience.

My question is are travel nurses welcome up there; wouldn't really want to pack up and leave only to feel out of place for a long time.

Secondly, how does one go about finding out the best areas to work in and apply, ect., what travel nurse agency to check into, that sort of thing.

I live in a really smalll populated area down here and am a country girl to the bone; love rural nursing and have never really been away from home. This career will open up a lot of opportunites and I would hate to miss out on any advantages.

Nice to meet you all, and any suggestions or instructions are apprecitated.
