Agency nurses I need your help!

I'm looking at doing agency nursing when we move -- but I haven't called around to any facilities yet. I don't need medical insurance as I have it through my husband -- what I want to know is, do you get maternity time with these agencies? And if not, what do people do for $$ when they are off for 6+ weeks???

I was thinking supplemental insurance but wasn't sure.

thanks,

e.

In my experience working for an agency, and I'm sure it's the same all over, if I don't work I don't get paid.

Specializes in ER, NICU, NSY and some other stuff.

get a short term disability policy before getting pregnant. I work soley agency but have no sort of pto. I am 29 weeks now and just socking away into savings.

Not me. I had to stop working @ 29 weeks too. Those were some lean times.

Good luck!

I worked with an agency- they were very empathetic to me & found me a home health private duty case when I got too large to perform duties in the LTC facilities & hospitals. I worked 11-7 during my last few weeks & returned after 2 weeks (c-section). I worked like this for several months and was thrilled that they were so accomodating. In answer, most agencies do not provide maternity benefits- you are per diem, that is why we earn more.

Specializes in ER, ICU.

Erin:

You can find a short term disability policy that will allow you 6 weeks after the delivery BUT you can not be pregnant at the time the policy is issued. In addition, if you are medically required to submit to bed rest (or at least not to work) BEFORE the delivery of your child the disability policy would activate at that point.

We have a nurse who is counting on the 6 weeks of pay while she is off and can't say enough for that piece of mind.
