Hi my name is cocodog I am interested in starting a nursing agency in FLorida...can u help me? I have some questions

Do you know what job lists are agencies talking about. For example you tell agency I would like to work in FL and they say "let us check the list". I am working on my Independent contractor/agency deal. Any help how to get contracts and start working as IC.

I also started my nursing agency/ independant contractor deal. Are you able to get any contracts with hospitals?

I'm also starting a business. Have my name have an appointment friday to become incorporated. Insurance man working on quotes. and I'm in the process of writing my business plan, but I'm stuck......can someone give me some advice on the "sales and market" section of the business plan??? I'm not sure how to do this or even where to find the figures.

Hello,

My name is Julian. I am a nursing student at Broward College and am currently in Med-Surg 1 wit about a year left in the program. I am 25 and am very passionate about this field and am also very business savy. I feel that starting a nursing agency would be a good move for me. My best friend of 10 years is an RN and is interested in joining me on this adventure too. I noticed that you have posted some guidance on this site and would like to know if you would be willing to give me some advice as well. I am from Miami and currently live in Davie, do you live in Miami Beach? I appreciate any advice you could give. Thank you!

hi julian,

i've just found this website and i'm wondering if you ever achieved what you mentioned in 2008 about opening your own company/ agency?

i wonder if you or anyone else can point me in the right direction? i have a very large and successful nursing agency in the uk and i'm looking to open a company in the states and mirror my uk model. we currently provide nursing personnel (all grades and specialities) to hospitals, prisons, homes etc. on a last minute basis and for contracts 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

i was thinking florida, california or new york for the base but open to ideas and suggestions to where's most needed for agency/ temporary staff.

please may anyone assist me with my query?

thanking you in advance

this sounds interesting. i'm looking at starting a nursing agency here in the uk. after several years in the army i would love nothing better than to work for myself as working on an nhs ward until retirement does not appeal to me. i'm trying to conduct market research but keep hiting a brick wall. if you could give me any tips for getting started here in the uk based on your experiences i would be very grateful.

thanks for any help

As I posted in your thread......

I think you need to do some more research on running a business and marketing a business. The requirements to running a healthcare business. How to certify you employees, how to do criminal checks, what you are responsible for marketing these nurses to facilities, insurance, malpractice coverage, legal consultation about running a business that provides licenses staff and the liabilities of running that business. Taxes, insurance, liabilities.....do you know anything about running a business? This is a big deal.

Having an office and documents isn't sufficient when negotiating with a hospital to utilize your staff over another well established staff. What research have you done to know what the staffing agency/hospital contracts look like, which is different than staff agency contracts. What are your HR policies? How do you establish compliance with HIPAA/Joint Commission? Are you going to be doing home staff or just facility staffing? Do you know anything about billing and coding?

You should have already done net working with facilities/clients and staff ready to come on board with tentative agreements for contracts. What is your plan when you negotiate with a facility to provide staff and you haven't hired any staff? How do you plan to get staff when you don't have and contracts? How to document competency, CPR, criminal background checks, licensing, compliance....in 10 days.

I mean this in the nicest way.....I think you need more than 10 days. Do a little more research. Best of luck to you.

The National Nurses in Business Association site has some good information .
