Quickest Way for Getting Things Done and Licensed in US

As most of you know, I have been recommending initial licensure in NY for quite some time. And for those of you that did not heed the warning, you now know why.

New York is three easy applications only, next you take the NCLEX exam, then you get a hard license and can endorse to almost any state afterwards. Because of the requirements of the Special Credentials Verification for New York, you do not have to do any of the running around to obtain your documents. CGFNS will obtain them for you....after you sign the release and send them the money.

NY also requires two short classes that can be done on-line, one on Child Abuse, and the other on Infection. Both are available for about $15 each and take only one hour or so.

NY BON application can be found at http://www.op.nyed.gov. You only need to submit "Form 1."

The Special Credentials Verification can be found at http://www.CGFNS.org, as well as the Visa Screen Application.

Once you have received documentation from NY that your credentials have been received and approved, submit payment to Pearson-Vue for the NCLEX exam. http://www.perasonvue.com. They are the ones that will actually send you the ATT letter, upon approval of the Board of Nursing. Be aware that this ATT (authorization to test) is only good for ninety (90) days. You will have onlt that amount of time to get the exam done in, otherwise you will lose your payment and have to start again.

Hope that this helps................ :balloons:

Most importantly, NY will issue you the license without a Social Security Number.

1. Application for NY, only the part ONE, if you are a foreign graduate.

2. Special Credentials Verification for NY, this is not the same as the regular CES form, only good for NY.

3. Visa Screen Certificate application. Unless you have a visa that permits you to work, you will need this. This can get you green card status which will give you permanent residency in the US, if that is what you want.

Not sure what else you need to know?

With number 2 do you get that off of the NY website or is it something that CGFNS provides?

It is listed on the CGFNS website, http://www.cgfns.org. It states Special Credentials Verification for NY.

I have just looked at the cgfns website and can't believe that I have to get all the exact same documents sent again. And for an additional cost. I of course will be doing it as I so much want this to be over and have the ability to potentially work here.

Thanks for all your information and help, hopefully this will work.

I have been looking at it some more and find it funny that they state that if there is a fee from the issuing institution that they will pay it, but I am sure that most people would pay it themselves just to get things moving as quickly as possible as I am sure that if the institution has to wait for payment prior to sending the documents that it will take forever as cgfns is so slow to do anything.

I am stressing out that it will all get lost in the shuffle as it has happened to me before more than once, as they are in the process of moving offices.

Can't believe that they make so much money and then are so disorganized.......

You have already had the documents sent, you only need to send the application for Visa Screen..................However, if you have had documents sent for the CES, these cannot be used for the NY-CVS. That is why I always recommend that a foreign nurse use NY only. CGFNS actually does a pretty good job of handling these documents since they have to obtain them........much better than when you submit them for CES. That is why I prefer doing it this way......................I always have my reasons.. :)

I only worry due to my bad experiences with cgfns, they requested more documentation from the university that I graduated from in Australia and lost two lots of the same documents, so I am sure that you can understand why I am nervous of the whole idea of using cgfns for anything at all.

Unfortunately, if you are going to work in the US as a foreign nurse, you can have to deal with CGFNS one way or another. The only way to entirely skip them is to marry an American where you do not need to apply for a Visa on your own, and not wish to work right away in Michigan or Illinois right wawy...

(or get a spousal green card....)

hi Suzanne, please advice me on what to do. I am presently here in the US under a tourist visa. i passed the nclex for new jersey and completed all my english exams and visascreen. problem is, i don't have a social security number. the contact person told me to write a letter to the nj board, enclosing photocopies of my passport and visa, certifying that i am a foreigner, then wait whether, the board's judgement whether my license will be released or not. I have only 4 months of stay left here in the US. my question is, what happens if they don't release my license? if at all, do i have any alternatives? is there a way out of the fix that i am currently in? thanks very much

Oh well I guess that i will just have to cross my fingers and hope that this finally works as I am already married, and my huisband is not American, but I do have a two year old who is:)

Thanks for your help, I am sure that I am bound to have more questions for you but I will start the process again this weekend, when I can sit down for two minutes and fill out forms etc:rolleyes:

Hi! Am new here. I am a doctor and a nurse at the same time. I just want to say thank you to Suzanne4. I learned a lot from her suggestions. Keep it up, and God bless you.
