Pre-registration Program for Overseas Qualified Nurses (PPOQN)

Course Outline

The Re-entry Program for Division 1 Registered Nurses (RPRN) and Pre-registration Program for Overseas Qualified Nurses (PPOQN) is an 11-week non-award program that leads to registration as a Division 1 professional nurse with the Nurses Board of Victoria (NBV), Australia. The program contains both theoretical and clinical components and is delivered at accredited health care venues in central and western Victoria that are ‘Partnered’ with the University of Ballarat. Both components of the program require satisfactory completion of assignments and/or clinical competencies.

Written confirmation from the NBV as to the eligibility of participants to undertake this program must be obtained before applying for the program. Note that satisfactory completion of this program does not entitle the participant to employment at clinical venues utilised in delivery of the program.

Hi lavalin.... what if you don't have prc license yet coz it's still on process? what will i submit?

thanks

You cannot submit anything as they will not do anything with your file, the local license is a requirement for them.

Please wait until you get your license, you have no choice but to wait. Do you even know for a fact that you passed the exam? If the license is a requirement, as it is for most other countries, they will not look at anything without it, and will only send you a letter to submit it.

^^^does that mean licensed nurses without prior work experience may apply for the bridge program?

The website of NBV doesnt say anything about work experience. Is there anybody who knows how much working experience is recommended before lodging your application?

How long does it usually take for the NBV to give the "go signal" for taking the bridging program from the time you have completed the requirements?

Thread moved to the International Forum since it is specific to licensure and immigration issues.

After any type of bridging program or competency course in Australia, you may or may not be registered. If you pass the bridging program, you will be registered, however, should you fail, you will not be registered in the end. Sadly, there's no assurance for this one or any other pathway anyway.

You can only apply for a working visa after you have been registered with NBV and assessed by ANMC. You will also have to have an employer for the 457 Visa (temporary long stay visa) or even the Skilled Sponsored (migrant/permanent) visa. The latter one needs you to have experience tho.

Hope that answers your question. :)

Hi, just a newbie here. Just got a question as I'm confused. it is actually for my mom, who is a nurse, 54yo, nurse for more than 20yrs, would-be an assistant chief nurse in a couple of months from now. She has a 1 year multiple entry Australian tourist visa. she just returned to Phil last week after a 3-month stay here.

can she take the bridging program (assuming she passed the ielts already) on a tourist visa and work here after finishing the program even if she's not a PR or citizen? thanks

Specializes in CTICU.

She can only work if she has an eligible visa. Look up 457 and 136 visas.

And the next thing to worry about is your mother's age, as far as I know they have a cut off. And the cut off I know is 45 years old - at least for the migrant/resident skilled visas. She maybe qualified for a 457 visa but the permanent residence status will be the hard part if those visas require a cut off age.

oh.. how about the student visa, afaik, you can convert it to 457 once you're done with schooling right? or it should be a two-year course to be eligible for that?
