New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand

Hi everyone, please help me.

I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.

Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.

That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.

However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.

I already have my bachelors degree here.

When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?

After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?

Thank you!

oh kristeeta, you hav risen... :yeah:

hi, i think it depends upon the education provider you choose..if you all still remember ive posted here before the schools that ive recommended. ETEA or VCHN...;)

if youre eyeing Deakin University, where i also did my BP, you have to review your pathophysiology and journal writing, as you will be doing these things at deakin.

by the way, im already working at The (Royal Prince) Alfred Hospital in Melbourne...Acute Assessment and Acute Medical Unitsss...good luck to all of us

Hi Ryan09!Congratulations! Thanks a lot for the inputs:). yes i also read from some of your posts that you actually recommended ETEA and VCHN although you took your BP at Deakin. Do you mind sharing with us why you specifically suggested to go for ETEA or VCHN? I think Chabeli suggested the same. Im afraid i have not seen your explanation or i may have just missed it.:) Your word will boost our confidence as to what BP provider to choose.

I am sincerely happy for you ryan09 that you have landed a job there.:yeah::yeah::yeah: i hope that you will continue to be an inspiration to everyone and with your colleagues at work:).Good luck and God Bless ryan09!

if i remember it right, ryan09 was already a PR when he was doing his BP, and that he got a scholarship for his BP because of his PR status, if i got it right..

Samchii, apply via the overseas nurses practitioner application which you'll see on their website. They will most likely tell you to take the BP. BP providers need the go signal from AHPRA before you take their course.

Those that passed, hear us (as if in prayer haha) Post naman tips on what to study before taking the bp. Happy sunday everyone!

Doza the Explorer,

i remember some of the stuff which were mentioned in the previous pages months ago about BP topics.. as far as i could rmember, here they are:

- drug calculation (perfect or very high jud ur score during quiz n tests)

- NCP preparation, that's why must bring NANDA

- Report making daw (dont know exactly ano report, pathophysio, drug study, ek ek).

- Read background on Nursing Laws, Delegation, Scope of Practice, Patient's rights, Standard of Practice, Ethics, Competency Standards

- Read background on Australian Healthcare system (Medicare, private insurance, DOH, Aged care etc.)

- it would be good if you know already some of the "terms" in Australia which we normally not familiar with like "manual handling", "Aboriginal, Torres Straits", etc..

- i think the rest of the topics are basically nursing related which we were already taught to us in nursing schools,

like medical surgical nursing, pathophysio as mentioned by ryan09..

hopefully they could share more in details than i have above..

Hi, thank you i hope to see you all here..:) right now im enjoying my full time job at The Alfred (melbourne's leading tertiary hospital together with the Royal Melbourne hospital and Austin Hospital :D )

i personally recommend VCHN and ETEA as ive known a couple of nurses who took their BP in these institutions and they told me that its easier there compared to Universities. beacuse we have compared it all. Universities have their standards to follow!!!im not scaring you guys, after all ive made it through to the gradution day at Deakin University, it can be managed however if theres a way that you could finish your BP without too much stress, then why not?!

yes youre right! ive got $2,000 from the Dept. of Human services and $8,000 from the Australian Goverment.

yes. after i finished my BSN my parents sponsored me to come to australia.i was already in australia when the results of the nursing exams in the philippines was released. i wasnt able to attend the oath taking ceremony, i wasnt able to celebrate with my friends neither...

hope to see you all here...by the way, nursing in australia is no different, they differ only in ,medical terms, drugs (brand names), spelling, and the way they do nursing here...but the main concept of nursing is still the same.
