New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand

Hi everyone, please help me.

I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.

Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.

That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.

However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.

I already have my bachelors degree here.

When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?

After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?

Thank you!

So HAPPY to hear about this!!! Congratulations to all our Pinoy nurses who have made it! :yeah:

How long did it take for them to get their registration from AHPRA after they've finished their bridging program?

Western Australia is not yet under AHPRA and nurses seeking registration are still processed by NMBWA. Wife and I went to NMBWA last Tuesday to accomplish some docs and effect payment of the Au$60 fee...a check on the registry this pm confirmed the registration with the board :)...

Wow! That fast! I hope registration with the new AHPRA after the BP would be that quick too. I wish you all the best with job hunting. Keep us posted! :redpinkhe You're truly an inspiration to us all here planning to fulfill our dreams in Oz!

congratulations to wifey blinq:yelclap:

maybe she can share with us what is actually done in a BP. you mentioned case studies already. If she can share some more through you that would be great! Also keep us posted on the job hunt :)

i thought they had applied under AHPRA, so Western Aussie then indeed it is expected that processing is fast.. i would bet that they would have easier time in finding job because they are graduates of "6 month conversion"..

good luck.. also, it really helps if those who finished BP would share what would expect or things to do during BP, this will help our fellow nurses to prepare in advance prior BP and also would help alleviate their anxiety..

hello. .. :)

I ticked the NO option... as per AHPRA's site instructions which has been stated and explained above by cerydwin.

thanks so much! ...ticked the NO option too. last question before i send my docs: in #12, what did you put in "category of registration"?:) i already put "registered nurse" in the "profession".

again, i'd like to say that this forum has been very helpful in soooooo many ways. thank you for all the answers to my queries!:yeah:

I personally submit my papers on 04 August.. They have told me that the processing will be delayed because of the back logs from NVB.. when did you process yours? are you here in Australia?

I submitted mine to AHPRA on Aug. 5 after they returned my application form and other documents for NBV. I am here in the Phils. It's just my bro. who is there. Did they tell you how long should we expect for our assessment? Since you are there, it would be to your advantage since you could follow up your application every now and then. i sent an enquiry to AHPRA through their website if they have received all my documents , but no reply until now. i cannot get through their number either. Just have to be patient i guess:)..

Exactly! For those who underwent and are undergoing the BP, please share with us your experience and the things to expect.:) I really hope that dudzy,Chabeli, Ryan, imsodizzy and the rest could come back here and give us an update. They have really been very helpful..God bless you guys!:yeah::yeah::yeah:

hiyee...I'm sorry but I'm quite confused with this new AHPRA rules..umm..

....B4 i get registered to the nursing board via AHPRA..I should first undergo the bridging course right??....or I could register then take the bridging course afterwards??...

...thanks a lot^^

Samchii, apply via the overseas nurses practitioner application which you'll see on their website. They will most likely tell you to take the BP. BP providers need the go signal from AHPRA before you take their course.

Those that passed, hear us (as if in prayer haha) Post naman tips on what to study before taking the bp. Happy sunday everyone!

It tooks 2mos. before NBV replied to my friend.. I think that's the standard processing time.. I'll call AHPRA or maybe send an e-mail if they would not give me a reply after 2mos.. well let's see what will happen.. That's right we need to be patient..

hi, i think it depends upon the education provider you choose..if you all still remember ive posted here before the schools that ive recommended. ETEA or VCHN...;)

if youre eyeing Deakin University, where i also did my BP, you have to review your pathophysiology and journal writing, as you will be doing these things at deakin.

by the way, im already working at The (Royal Prince) Alfred Hospital in Melbourne...Acute Assessment and Acute Medical Unitsss...good luck to all of us

Who's doing BP in Victorian College of Health and Nursing Heidelberg this October or November ? Where is the clinical placement ? Where do they conduct their BP? How did you pay? Can anyone suggest a cheap place to rent near VCHN ?

me, shinggay, and ricardocarlos will have our bp at vchn in october 4.

are you registered at WA? If you are, then i think clinical placement will be in perth. but i'm not sure yet coz WA will join the natl reg by mid october.

I paid through PNB.

Like you, i'm still hunting for a place to rent. Anyone, HELP!
