New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand

Hi everyone, please help me.

I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.

Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.

That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.

However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.

I already have my bachelors degree here.

When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?

After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?

Thank you!

I read the AHPRA site and it seems applying for BP will turn out negative for me. I don't have any nursing experience, even a voluntary one for almost two years now. So what do you think people? Should I still proceed for BP or is choosing conversion the better choice regarding my situation.

wingcharm, im just concern, so you're really sure of that matter you raised hereof.. tsk tsk.. i suggest you also email some of the senior high IQ forumers so that they could answer you major concern asap... of course if you have money then "conversion" wont be a problem then....

wishing the best on your plans..

HAD JUST SENT MY FIRST JOB APPLICATION ONLNE TODAY..

now let's see..

how effective would it be..

for an RN without BP..

without paid employment..

just volunteer experience & training involvement...

this is an acid test..

crossing my fingers..

hoping for the best..

just the power of prayers..

and so nothing else..

for now, gonna wait & rest..

hi,

I would like to ask how you did it. How much did you spend and where did you study?

I would really want to be a nurse in Oz.

hi,

antigone, are your questions addressed to me?

- i applied based on the old policies of NT (prior july 2010 AHPRA)

- spent for: registration fee, photocopies, notary, verifications, mailing...

- studied in a "2nd class" nursing school in Davao (1st class school here are Ateneo, San Pedro, Davao Doctors, Brokenshire).

nowadays, you need money and experience to become a nurse in oz.. pls read AHPRA website for your reference..

p.s. i have just received my 1st rejection of my online 1st job application.. try ang try till i die..:smokin:

cioman94, that was quick. how did they reject it? Remember what they say, send hundreds

Wish you luck Cioman94.. At least they replied ..one will definitely be good news

wow, youve included my alma mater in your 1st class nursing school list..:D im a DDCian batch 2005. :)

my fellow nurses, for you to have an idea hows the vacancies being posted in some of the health care facilities in victoria you can visit these following websites. www.westernhealth.mhr.com.au, www.southernhealth.mhr.com.au, www.barwonhealth.mhr.com.au at least you will have an idea on how they formulate position descriptions and that in the future you can prepare for it specially during interview. :okaY:

and to all nurses who are preparing for the BP, google some australian medical terms as they have diffferent medical terms and spelling s.

Hi ryan09

Could you give me an example of word? I try searching medical terms in australia. But i do not get any useful websites..

Maybe an australian medical term could trigger a better search result. Still on vacation??

Thanks

Thanks for posting this :)

I assume that the employer can sign anywhere in the CV, maybe in the end so it doesn't look messy. You can type "This Curriculum Vitae is true and correct as at (insert date)" on the bottom with a blank after for the employer. If you want to be specific, maybe you do this at the end of every employment entry in the work history part.

They probably require this to make sure we're not making up our experience. I think the major problem you'll encounter is having it signed and following it up, you know Filipino mentality, they love it when they are sought after. I think as long as what you right there is true and correct they should sign it.

Hi Doza!

I have certain doubts concerning the CV,too....

First of all, I was just wondering if the CV should be in written in our mother-tongue, and afterwards, we make a cetified copy of it and send both versions to AHPRA?

OR

Should we translate the CV into English ourselves? And then ask our employer to sign it?

Can the employer who´s gonna siogn it be the HR director? I doubt that my chief nurse who barely speaks English would sign it, and besides, If she comes to be aware that I´m planning to move to another country, she´d fire me the next day!!!

@doza... now i could feel the advice of sending hundreds of applications, but the catch is that i have to prepare a "response to the selection/essential criteria" for each application, that's a bit time consuming..

at least they replied quickly, they said they are not recruiting nurses out from the philippines, that i need 1-2 years experience in an English speaking country.. i emailed back that Philippines uses English as the primary language for hospital records, education and laws..

they emailed back and made offers on rural nursing posts.. naaah, my charms would be of no use there in the rurals..

lessons learned: as suspected, there is job in Oz, worst comes to worst it's in the rural which is better than working in saudi, and the pay is higher too, but that would be our last choice isnt it..
