I will repeat myself for the 100th time, if you are a foreign nurse, do not go for initial licensure in California. California will only issue you a license after you have a SSN#, not before. Which means that if you try to endorse to another state you will be unable to as you will not actually have a CA license. They only send you a letter that you meet all of the requirements, but do not actually issue you a number without the SSN#. You have up to three years to get the number submitted to them, but with the new changes for some of the countries, that may not be enought time.

One that I highly recommend is New York. CGFNS actually takes care of obtaining all of the required info because of the specail credentials verification that NY requires, you do have to pay a few extra dollars for it, but they will actually issue you a hard licnese as soon as you pass the NCLEX exam.

There is nothing else for you to do at this point, but for anyone just beginning the process, stay away from California for initial licensure.

You will not be able to endorse to any other state until you actually have received your hard license and/or have been assigned an actual number by them.

Yes, you can provide results of NCLEX for your Visa Screen Certificate, as California will submit a document for you for a fee, but they will not sign off on any endorsement since you don't actually have a license issued there.

first, why are you wishing to take the cgfns exam, unless you are going to work in one of about four states in the us, there is absolutely no reason to take it.

cgfns exam will not give you a license to practice, you are still going to need to take the nclex-rn at some point to work here. please read the stickies at the top of this forum, everything is explained there in detail.

    and welcome to allnurses.com.........

CGFNS is required by 45 of 50 states for initial licensure. So, if you want to work in one of those states, you need the CGFNS exam. Requirements for processing of the green card is either passing scores on CGFNS or NCLEX and the complement of English exams if you are not exempt from them.
NCLEX is only available in the US and not all nurses qualify for a tourist visa to take it. In many countries, the nurse wages aren't high enough for the nurse to qualify for a tourist/visitor visa, so by being able to use CGFNS exam in their own country, they can get the work done for the green card.

Where are you interested in working? What area of the country? What specialty? Have you completed your series of English exams?

i have a number of questions...can i ask which states require local board exam or local license?? and which states require cgfns exam...can i fly to u.s without the local license..will the u.s immigration allow me? what valid explanation can i tell them if i did not take the local board exam on purpose? wheew thats all...by the way im from the philippines..thanks in advance for your reply..

Please take the time to do a search here. All of the information that you are requesting is already on this forum.

The thread that you are actually posting to is more than a couple of years old.

Do not select a state based on what you need for there, but based on where you wish to work. That is how you should start.

Decide where you want to work, and then go from there. Suggest that you take the time to do some reading on this forum, particularly to the stickies at the top of this forum.
