Need Help On Cgfns Examination

Hi Everybody I think I need some help with the CGFNS Ex. I've just failed on July 2003. Iwas really sure that I did well, but I failed. the major problem is that as I'm not living in US i had to travel specially for the examination. And as the comunication with the CGFNS was no as fluent as I would expect, I was told that I was rostered only a few days before the examination date. So I traveled under great stress, I mean, Ihad never been to NY and I traveled by myself. The trip was really great; the only problem was that I failed. I really studied quite little, I have to say. i used The CGFNS study guide and KAPLAN.

Can anobody recomend other sources of study? Can any body has any experience on CGFNS EX. Thank you. FABY

sorry to hear that you failed last July. I passed CGFNS in March and that was my first time for it. I studied on KAPLAN, CGFNS guide book and Mosby. They are all good sources.

For me it is really important to work on the questions. I did almost 4,000 questions in 3 months...in the book and CD- ROM.

When will you take it again,BTW??

i am planning to take cgfns exam by end of this year. can anyone please give me more details on the kaplan and mosby guide books for cgfns. i mean what is the actual title of the books and where can i purchase them. thank you.

Use the CGFNS guide book, as well as NCLEX study guides for the others.

You can use Saunders, Mosby, Lippincott...............etc. They all have excellent reviews. Just try to do as many questions each day that you can. The earliest that you will be able to take the CGFNS exam is November, so you have plenty of time. If you shoot for 100 per day you will be well on your way.

I would highly recommend that you get your application in as soon as possible, because deadline posted is when all documents have to be received, not just your application. This means papers from your nursing board as well as university.

Get the Visa Screen application filed as soon as possible also. You do not need to have results of your exams for this to be started, you can save yourself quite a bit of time.

Do you know which state that you are interested in working in? I would apply to them as soon as possible as you will need permission from them to be able to sit and write the NCLEX exam. Some states are taking months for this, example, California is over 6 months right now just for the ATT letter.

In response to Faby's note above: CGFNS is not required for a green card. You have a choice of either CGFNS or NCLEX. English is required for all, except if you have trained in a country where English is the native language, or your program was taught completely in English.

To you Suzanne4: I'm very confused. If CGFNS ex isn't required for a Green Card, what is it for?

And, now that I passed CGFNS examination, and I'm about to apply for Visascreen, do know about any Nursing Agency or Hospital that would be interested in sponsoring foreign nurses? It seems to me that getting a job is quite difficult, isn't it? I wouldn't like to apply for Visascreen if I don't have any possibility of obtaining a job.

CGFNS is required by 45 of 50 states for initial licensure. So, if you want to work in one of those states, you need the CGFNS exam. Requirements for processing of the green card is either passing scores on CGFNS or NCLEX and the complement of English exams if you are not exempt from them.

NCLEX is only available in the US and not all nurses qualify for a tourist visa to take it. In many countries, the nurse wages aren't high enough for the nurse to qualify for a tourist/visitor visa, so by being able to use CGFNS exam in their own country, they can get the work done for the green card.

Where are you interested in working? What area of the country? What specialty? Have you completed your series of English exams?
