Hi Suzanne,

I'm new here. I am Japanese in US and trying to obtain the NY State RN license. Could you plese tell me how long the evaluation for RN (New York State) take?

I applied for NY RN licensure and CGFNS Credentials Verification Service for NY State this February. CGFNS received all the required documents and sent them to NY State Board of Nursing in September. When I asked NY State Board of Nursing, they told me that the evaluation would be completed about 3~4 weeks . However I recently found that they even haven't started to evaluate my case. They told me that they are waiting my transcript, which was sent to translator and they have no idea when the transcript coming back.

Now I am calling them every day and checking my application status but there is no progress and their answer is always the same. I am very confused and frustrated with this situation. I really want to know how long the evaluation process (NY State) should be taken.

If someont has same experience to me, please tell me how long did you spend for your evaluation!

Thank you.

After 6 months, CGFNS is supposed to send on what they have received, and then it is up to NY to make a decision as to what they wish to do.

Tank you for your quick reply, Suzanne. I´m going to contact CGFNS this evening to find out why they haven`t already sent my documents to the NY-BON .

hi SUzzane, I applied to CA BON for an eligibility to take nclex last oct. 20, how long do you think will it take for my application to be approved? I already had an approval last 2003 but it expired after 2 years,so I applied again.I already got the visa, my agency wont deploy me yet because they said they are still waiting for the eligibility.thanks

CABON generally takes 4 months. But I have a friend who applied in August 2005 and got approval in November last week. I think CABON is working faster these days. You may expect to get your eligibility very soon. why don't you call them and find out. They will tell you whether they are reviewing the applications they received in October or before that.

hi everyone...this is my very first post....i would just like to ask suzanne if I have to wait for the result of my cvs report before sending an application to the NY BON. I have just sent my application to cgfns and im wondering if i can send my application to NY BON now to save time...oh and another thing, i read from another post that they will be sending their transcripts to NY BON since their school just received the cgfns request....do we have to follow this up ourselves or will we just wait for confirmation thru email that cgfns has received all the credentials? thanks so much in advance and this site has been really helpful especially these times when you are contemplating on what's the next step to take :)

hi suzanne......approximately how many weeks would one receive the physical license from NY BON if one passed NCLEX NY? are they gonna send it by courier or standard mail?

You can definitely send the application on to NY now, I usually recommend to send all three at the same time, including the application for the VSC, if the nurse can afford to do it like that. You can watch the website, give it about two months, and if nothing is there, then contact them via phone for follow-up.

Definitely not courier mail, unless you ask for it and pay for it. Just standard air-mail. But remember as soon as you have the actual license number, you can endorse, or do whatever with it. They also participate in quick results from Pearson-Vue. So, 48 hours later you will have your results.

Hi! I am also going to NY and had a situation with my TOR (credentials verification). It took me 7 long months to go, follow up, e-mail, mail thru fedex in my school and the CGFNS. According to CGFNS they mailed the verification form but according to the scholl they did not receive any. The good news is that after 7 months, my school finally was able to receive and send back the "verification form" to CG. I already have my visa and will be flying to NY next month.

However i will also be waiting for the NY verification so that i can get my limited permit. I also have friends who have the same experience.

I just hope that we will all get our Verifications approved ii time.

thanks suzanne, you've been a great help :) I hope the CVS wont take that long...ill try to send my application to the NY BON first then wait for my TOEFL results before i apply for the visa screen.

The problem looks like it was with your school, not CGFNS. CGFNS is required to send all documents that they have received onto NY in six months, even if the file is not completed. If NY is having to wait for the translation, it means that your school did not return the documents before the deadline.

If they have received everything on time, it usually takes only about four months for you to get approval.

This is why i decided to go for CES (for Illinois) instead of CVS for NY. Since i went to different schools and hold diff licenses, theres a big possibility that one of these schools will not act on one, or maybe even more, of the credentials requested by CGFNS to be verified. Remember, in CVS, it is CGFNS who will mail the school whereas in CES, we do it, hence we can personally follow up the status of our papers. Besides, you can use the CVS only for NY while there are at least 5 states requiring CES.

ackkk! CVS NY is taking so long to review my transcripts and license....GRRR!
