Canadian RN applying for TN visa

Anyone from Canada recently apply for a TN visa? I will be applying for the first time at a Canadian-US Port of Entry and am having a difficult time finding a concrete list of required documents I will need to present. Some websites say I will need a visa screen/GCFNS certification, as well as a nursing license for the state I will be practicing in, while others do not mention these at all. To confuse matters even more, some also mention a credentials evaluation. Is this the same as a visa screen? When I looked on the GCFNS website they seem to be different, but it would be so expensive to pay for both!

If my employer filed an I-129 petition form, would I still need to pay for these assessments?

I would so greatly appreciate any feedback from those of you who have recently and successfully gotten their TN visa! Thank you!

Thanks for your reply.. I don't have SSN yet but my illinois license can be renewed by taking nursing units every time its about to expire, that's why it remains active... I can apply citizenship May 2018 while I can take OIIQ exam by March 2018 then I have to study french for 1-2 years before I can become competent to take the French exam. In short, obtaining citizenship and TN visa would probably be the faster route for me since it would take me another 2-3 yrs here in Qc to get a permanent license... So, I'm having a dilemma whether to still pursue the OIIQ and french here knowing that my citizenship will come first... Does obtaining TN visa for Nursing homes/hospitals in Illinois require current nursing experience? Or its possible to obtain a visa even without exp?

Suggest you phone the human resources departments at various Illinois hospitals and nursing homes and ask if they have a shortage of nurses and if they are recruiting Canadian nurses who require Tn visas. I think they may have a surplus of local qualified new grads who are either unemployed or underemployed, if so, employers cannot justify hiring out of country applicants.

Why cant you do both at the same time? Try to pass your french exam and get your Tn and a job at the same time and go from there.From my experience the hospital/agencies are usually looking for experienced nurse (at least a year... if not more). The newgrads positions are usually filled already. If french is a problem, cant you pass the Ontario board exam? I dont even know if its an option.

Hey got my TN last week

I brought :

-My TN letter (bring an original they'll keep it and they'll give you a copy)

-Visascreen

-CES report (clic on it and print your applicant copy)

-my degree (original)

-50$ US

I also had : an original transcript, a copy of my US license and a copy of my Quebec License.He didn't care much for those.

**Your credential evaluation (CES report) is part of your Visascreen. So I paid for my CES report first in order to get my US license and after applied and paid for the Visascreen. You should read some post in the registration forum also to gather more information.

The letter is not the job offer. It is something the hospital provides as proof that you have a job and outlines, I believe, stuff like duration of employment and pay

Nope. The employment letter is different. Probably, you know this by now. Were you able to get job offer?
