Tampa ARNP-one yr post grad still no job!

I am so stressed out and regretting my ARNP degree. It's been one year since I graduated and passed the board, national certification. And I still can't get a job anywhere!! It's maddening. Everyone wants experience but I can't get it without a job. I have been doing HRA assessments but those are drying up and I'm not getting any work from them either. I don't know what to do! I even tried to volunteer at a free clinic just to get experience and they actually turned me down too. Because they said I don't have enough experience. IT'S MADDENING! Does anyone know of part time work? Or any other HRA companies hiring? Anything? I can't leave this area to relocate (custody divorce agreement) so relocation is not an option.

Some thoughts:

1. Go back to court to get custody revised so that you can provide for you children.

2. Then you could move to a more rural area where jobs are more plentiful.

3. Work as an RN (unsure if that is what you are doing now?)

From what we hear at AN, Florida is a saturated market for APRNs - I am sincerely sorry that you having such a hard time finding a job.

Unfortunately I think you didn't do your due diligence on researching the NP market before signing up for a lot of tuition money, knowing that you can't leave the county due to your children's custody arrangement.

I don't really know what to say except to anyone that might stumble upon this thread that you absolutely need to research the market before getting any degree and know what you're able or willing to do in order to get a job when you graduate. 18 year olds really don't know any better (and their parents need to guide them heavily), but those thinking about graduate school are older and should know better.

OP, I hope you are able to find a job soon to support your family. Maybe you should consider leaving the kids with your ex as primary custody for a couple of years while you get experience elsewhere and then move back once you have the experience. There are many families that have one parent away for an extended period of time and at least in this situation you could see them a couple of times a month.

You could come up to Georgia. However, we have many NP's that have left our state. This is because of a necessity of having a collaborative physician (which I never see and cannot get on the phone). Also in GA, the collaborative can only manage 4 NP's. Add to the fact that travel RN's make way more than NP's in our state.

What about working for a corporation in medical device sales?

i will also add that I worked as a RN 2 years post MSN-NP. This was due to difficult market conditions.

Hi! I don't know if you are still actively looking for work, but I wanted to see if you have a Minuteclinic in your area. It is a start, and it pays decent money. You will have to work long hours 8:30 am to 7:30 pm Mon-Friday, 9:00-5:30 on Saturday, and 10:00- 4pm on Sunday. You will be the only person working in the clinic, and you will have to do things such as, ordering and putting up supplies, checking temps on frig, looking up Insurance, calling IT when the computer malfunctions, taking payments, marketing, sweeping and mopping the floors, and taking out the trash . I hope that you find work...if you haven't already:up:

Baycare has a bunch of NP positions posted.

Baycare has a lot of NP positions "posted", but , in my experience, they have so many nurses in NP school, it is really hard to get in if you aren't working there already.

I know it has been some time since the OP posted, but PM me if you want a decent low-stress NP job in Tampa.

Please tell me you were being facetious and there truly are not NPs willing to do any of the above, well except maybe contacting IT.

@Jules - took my hubby to a Minute Clinic for tendonitis, yep only NP on duty - she did triage, care, billing, follow up call a few days later.

Interesting. They could not pay me enough money. I would be inclined to question the judgement of providers who accept such conditions although I know that is colored by my own professional expectations and requirements.

From soem friends that have worked there, it's a pretty easy job with good pay, minimal responsibility, and a 32 hour week.
