FNP Assessment book

Hey guys,

I am a future nurse practitioner (in school now) and I was looking for a good assessment book to help me. I plan on working at a nearby clinic in Texas and wanted to start learning now. I am hoping for something that is detailed, has pictures/illustrations and provides a rationale for why things are done.

Any advice?

Seidels or Bates are both good, a used copy will do as physical exams don't change a lot with new editions. I actually have a first edition of Bates, the drawings are pencil/ink, no photographs even. Still it is a good book. Also if you can find a handbook for one of these, it helps to carry to clinical. Good luck on your studies.

Just noticed your username, you need to add "2B" to it, check Terms of Service, not allowed to use titles not yet earned.

I second Sailornurse's choices as excellent resources. My personal favorite though is Mark Swartz's Physical Diagnosis book.

The best one for me is the Springhouse Assessment: A 2-in-1 Reference for Nurses (2-in-1 Reference for Nurses Series). I had Bates but this one was way better. Very nicely written and well organized.

Definitely get Bates I've seen it recommended over and over again

I think Bates is one of the better books.

Really this is what you need: https://meded.ucsd.edu/clinicalmed/
