What's up with Zosyn?

I work postop... has been a year now.

My research yields used for pneumonia? So are they giving every dang pt zosyn to prevent it?

I don't know, but I sure hate mixing it. Takes for..ev..er.

Specializes in Oncology.

I've only ever seen Zosyn in premixed piggyback bags. I've mixed loads of Meropenem, Primaxin and Erythromycin, but never Zosyn.

We get it premixed! I guess we're spoiled. =P

My hospital used to give every suspected sepsis case a vanc/zosyn regimen. Apparently now we have a zosyn shortage, so the replacement reigmen is vanc/cefepime/flagyl.

Seems like Zosyn, Cefepime, Unasyn, Vanco, Rocephin, and Levaquin are the most commonly used where I work. Crap I forgot Flagyl, everybody and their brother is on Flagyl IVPB every 8 hours. Only my Vanco, Levaquin, and Flagyl come premixed.
