yuckiest things to do

Published

Hey all, I have just got a new job as a cna and start training in 2 weeks. I'm very excited as this is a huge career change for me but I would like to know whats the most gross and yuckiest thing you have seen or had to do? And tips on how to handle it. And also how long did it take for you to get used to it?

Thank in advance

OMG....am I REALLY going to be able to do this job???? Like teachers and policeman...they just don't PAY enuff!!!:heartbeat

ugh! reading all of this making me think twice about what i'm getting myself into. :smackingf

C-diff, bedsores so bad you can see bone, dentures full of food, the other staff wiping butts with no gloves and then eating a snack without washing their hands.

eww do they go home and kiss their spouses after that last one?

God, I hope not, but all signs point to yes.

I recently had a very large resident that when I went to go change her breif the other day at 11am (I'm in clinicals and don't get there until about 8:30, so the actual LNA's are supposed to get them up first thing in the morning and change their breif when they get there at 7am). I had one of the actual LNA's help me because my resident was very large and I would need help. When we rolled her over, the whole back of her bed was soaked in urine. NO ONE HAD CHANGED HER! She had been sitting in a pool of her own urine all morning because no one changed her. So as I took her literally soaking-wet breif off and started her back peri-care, I noticed there was feces on the cloth, but she didn't have a BM. SHE WAS GOING RIGHT THEN! So I had to run and get toilet paper and catch everything that she was excreting RIGHT THERE in that puddle of urine that I was still trying to clean up. It was awful. Obviously, I felt worse for the resident because not only was she not able to communicate that her breif was wet, but because she's incontinent she didn't know she had begun to poop on me! So far, that's the yuckiest thing I've done.

I had a similar situation happen to me a couple of weeks ago too. I was performing my hourly checks when one of the resident's family member tapped me on the shoulder & said "Excuse me..I was going to use the bathroom in the hallway & I noticed there's poo everywhere"....smeared all over the sink, the mirror, & the switchplates..

colostomy bags, vomit, and we have a lady who plays with her poop. lovely!!

I work in a hospital and a lady bled out through her rectum and there was a giant pool of blood and stool.... the smell was the worst thing EVER and it lingered in the halls all night. I'm glad we saved her though because she coded

I know this is an old thread. But...

-Holding a 450lb man's scrotum (which was rotting) while the nurse debrided and dressed it.

-Having a 400lb woman roll back on my arm whilst I was cleaning BM off of her bottom.

-Getting chunks of rotten food spat on my face from a woman who had refused oral care for ages.

-Cleaning semen off of the floor... ...while the resident "deposited" more there. :barf01:

-^^^Stepping in the semen and then going and disinfecting my shoes in the shower room.

-Getting sprayed by a g-tube... ...and not having a change of clothes.

-Scrubbing ~10 dried "luggies" off of the linoleum that the COPD'er left there.

My very first day on the job one of the residents was off in another part of the building eating her own poop. So we has to brush her teeth, but it was hard because she (and all of the residents) have dementia, and she really doesn't like to have her teeth brushed. So after that experience, nothing else seems too much for me to handle lol :)

That is disgusting! I don't know if I could handle that.
