Your Opinions, please

Hi, ya'll,

I have been looking around at jobs and there's a few I am interested in. If this one is still open (gets posted again, which I hope so), it's a public health job...part time. Then, there's a couple psych positions...part time.

Most people look at it and think 'I need full time'. I, initially, thought I only wanted to look at full time jobs, but the more I think about it, I think part time might actually be better for me (would work more hours, if needed though.). I live at home, so as of this moment, I don't pay rent on an apartment or anything (that might change, I don't know). My point is, I do have help and everything. Also, with me being a new nurse and doing the recovery/HPMP thing (both mental health and alcohol issues), it may help to ease into it and go part time and then, when I get comfortable in the nurse role and everything situated, then I can go full time, if positions allow.

What do you think? Part time or full time or doesn't matter--it's a job?

I think if you believe part time would be better for you then go for it. My BON requires I work at least 64 hours per month on my probationary license. I would apply to many jobs and see who calls back.

True. I think what they are calling "part time" can be as much as 32 hours in a pay period. So, it would be about 64 hours a month. I think these are varied shifts too (except public health job), which might help with the things I am already involved in (I volunteer a lot, so maybe some days I am volunteering, then I can pick a night shift vs day--depending on the need and flexibility of the company, and when I volunteer evenings, then I can do day shift). Many of the psych positions I have come across are 8 hrs shifts vs 12s, which I can do that (I can do 12s too, but I am fairly flexible to accomodate the facility. I know some people hate working 8s).

I'm starting my new job Tuesday... 5x8 hour shifts a week :) I don't mind cause it'll be mon- fri 8:30-5 :)

I am talking inpatient though. Only one of the three is clinic and I don't know if that is going to be an option. It won't be if they have applicants for it. But, the psych positions are inpatient and I am thinking 8 hr shifts with them. Most nurses would rather work 3 12s, than 5 8s in the hospital setting (or part time 2 12s than 3-4 8s).

I did enjoy 12 hour shifts also.
