Yet another newbie, sort of...

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Specializes in telemetry, phlebotomy.

Hey all...

I've been online for a while reading various posts. So I'm deciding to jump in with both feet now that I'm about to finish my first year of classes.

I have 3 kids. 2 boys ages 12 and 4 and a girl who will be 2 next month. Originally I was going to just get my ADN, but decided I wanted more. So I'm pursuing a BS degree in Chemistry with a minor in Spanish. Once I've complete that, I will go straight in to the nursing classes. I plan to work in critical care, preferably peds, for a few years and get my CCRN. Ultimately I would enjoy becoming a CRNA, not just for the pay, but for the challenge and enjoyment of the specialty.

I plan on making many friends here over the long term!!

Welcome! It sounds like you have a plan. Chemistry? Ahhh, can you come over and help me with my o chem homework? Chemistry is the bane of my existence right now! I think I would rather "do time" than get a chemistry degree, but power to you! This stuff has to make sense to someone, right? Its not me. Phew.

Thank you!

Yes I'm sure the nightmares will set in soon enough, but it all has to end sometime. I may consider moving into the lab in exchange for some cleaning duties. I don't want to scare the family when the personalities start to appear due to study stress.

Do you dream in chemistry? When I took the general chem I sure did. At the start of O chem, too, I was busy trying to put it all together in my sleep. I guess it is good for me to be able to work some of it out in my sleep, as it is clear that I am working hard to figure it out. But ugh, I would rather have some nice tropical beach dreams, thanks!

Ah yes, the beach. I could move to Paradise Island (Atlantis Resort) and be happy for the rest of my life. As a matter of fact, I'm planning a N I C E beach vacation once I have my RN. By that time it will have already been a long traveled road and I will more than deserve a nice retreat! There's no place like the blue/green waters of the Caribbean.

Until then, I try not to dwell on the sentence I have given myself. It seems never ending and I have only just begun.

:redbeathe:redbeathe Love it there! :redbeathe:redbeathe We have a unit at Harborside.

I absolutely can't believe I'm thinking of being a nurse. Am I nuts or what:lol2:

Well all are. Isn't that what RN stands for? "Registered Nut"?

Someone here has that as their byline.

All through school we question ourselves, nearly lose it mentally, or consider folding under the stress and pressure. But the day were are getting pinned, we will reflect back with pride and self gratitude that we kept going. I hope we all remember these difficult school days years down the road so that we may identify easier with fresh grads as they come on board.

Wow a BS in Chemistry with a minor is Spanish... very diverse plan of study... congrats to you! Your Chemistry education will be an asset in NS and especially graduate school, and you will have great versatility.. being bilingual in Spanish will open so many opportunities for you.

Best Wishes and welcome! :)

Spanish has always been easy for me. I remember so much from high school. Plus I believe here soon job competition will be *somewhat* based on bilingual status. So it definitely won't hurt. And if I make it to CRNA school, (if my last brain cell makes it that far), the chemistry background will definitely come in handy!
