2 Years or 4 year Degree. HELP!

Published

Hey guys I am currently doing my prerequisites at Los Angeles Trade Technical College which is a community college. I am debating if I should take the RN program (ADN) at the school I'm currently at or should I continue and do all my prereq. and just transfer to Cal State University and just go for the BSN? I really want to get all my prerequisites out of the way and just jump into the BSN program. But I wanna know what is everyone's input. Positive or negative. Thanks so much

I would advise going straight for the BSN if it is practical for you, but that is based on the market in my area, and I'm on the opposite coast from you. What is holding you back from just jumping straight into the BSN like you want to?

I decided to go to a community college because I am older, 41. I just want to start being a nurse quicker. I do plan on doing a BSN bridge once I'm done. Also, I just got a job at a 4 year medical institution and they will pay for me classes here. Look at your options. I feel the end result for any nurse should at least be a BSN. How and when you get it is up to you and your pocket? LOL

Keep in mind that obtaining a hospital job without a BSN will probably be very difficult. Admission to reasonably priced BSN programs is uber-competitive in most areas of the country. You'll be competing with high flyers that have GPAs close to 4.0.

The BSN really depends on your area. And some hospitals say that you can enroll in a BSN program after you're hired. So that shouldn't stop a person from trying hospitals.
